Just comeback to shooting after a few years and i used to manily wildfowl and rough shoot so i used my dads old aya no2 (a great gun) but its not really suited to regular clay shooting. I got about 600 max to spend on a nice gun, the gunsmith at the local club has recommended a webley and scott 900 series, a mirioku or a browning. I know its personal preference and gun fit just wondered if anybody has a view point or recommendation.

As you say mark, it's really down to personal preference. The recommendations you have had are good ones, though I'm surprised no one has mentioned Beretta? For your budget, you may get a new Webley, or Lanber (good, reliable guns) or in that price range you will find plenty of used examples by Beretta, Browning, Miroku, Winchester etc. Just look around high st gunshops and clay grounds shops, handle as many as you can until one feels "right". For clays, make sure you get a sporter without auto safety, you see many folks using game guns call for a "bird" then not shoot because the safety is on.

Not sure on that Dan, but they all seem to be. For obvious reasons of course.

A clay gun is only loaded when the shooter is in the stand/cage, so he knows he is about to shoot and there should be no one in the way!!

I personally get irritated by repeated "no shoots" for this reason. It's just something else to remember when all you should be thinking about is the clay.

i'd tend to disagree with you there,you should always be thinking of safety before anything else !!

i know clay pigeon shooting is a controled enviroment but still....

You perhaps misunderstand me Ricky, shooting has to be all about safety. But, once a clay shoot has been set up and all the angles checked ,so that no one can point a gun towards anyone from a cage, then you should be able to go into that cage, load up and concentrate on the clay. This is what I mean, the safety thinking has been done for you in that respect.

i shoot both game and clays, my beretta 686s has auto safety i prefer it, i am used to it, i never forget to switch safety off when clay shooting[almost never!!!]my mates are always saying why dont you get it removed but i have always shot with auto safety i think its safer

No!!..This is an issues that has bounced backwards and forwards with public opinion over the years, there are loads without!!!....I hate auto safe, it is a pain in the arse, if I want the safe on I will put it on!!!

my mates think the same as you pal! they think autosafe is a pain in the arse.its what your used to i spose.

I'm used to it, like one of the guys says its personal preference
