I'm thinking of getting a two piece shovel made would anyone be able to put some photos up of theirs if they have one so i can get some ideas on joining it when cut and making it safe to use, one of my shovels is a bulldog and i was going to get it cut in half in work but not quite sure how i would revamp it. thanks

Take a look at the link below, looks a good job. I dont see the need for a lathe or taps and dies the way theyve been adapted. Keep us informed of your results JJ

thanks very much GDW that looks a proper job done on those two and i now have a better understanding of how i can have one made, i will take the shovel that i am going to have cut down into work on the weekend and get one of the fitters to have a little play about with it and see what he comes up with, thanks again and i will keep you up to date.

Jayjay sorry to hijack your thread pal but i'm after designing a shovel but made from a lightweight strong metal similar

designed as yours but maybe a bit shorter to carry on your back with a strap and also a T-bar built in.Can any metal workers advise on a type of metal that would be light yet still strong enough in a short length,thanks,
