We all interpret laws in our own ways ooty, they are flexible providing you accept the consequences if your initial interpretation was wrong, but the day the law-makers themselves are squeaky-clean is the day to adhere to the written laws 100% but as we all know, some people are f***ing hypocrites ;)

i might of guessed you'd come out with somthing like that :clapper: ,a bit like yourself maybe? iv done my fair shaire ov doing as i please in most areas of country sports most of my life.sometimes cause im poor but mainly i cant help it, and sometimes getting caught  ,somtimes manageing to bullshit my way out, even fight my way out if its the only way,i got short legs see!!, im only any good at short distance running :thumbdown:mind you i have serprised meself a couple of times when things have come badly on top and it looks like its going realy bad for me :victory: .certainly been left no choice but to dunk the odd jobsworth baliff or keeper to get a head start on them(my ol dads a keeper,we dont see eye to eye on some things  ) :whistling: and sometimes iv found them to be just plain rude when iv asked realy nicely, if you let me go i promise il not come back  .but apart from haveing the nets off the goal post up the footy pitch or cricket net from down the wreck to catch a few trout or koi carp, :whistling: iv not done much netting. few eel nets we found in one balifs shed that tried to get us knicked and stole our rods when we was kids :boogie: but iv just come across ths realy pukka 100yrd net with pollystirean rope at the top and led at the bottem,12ft deep and fancy a crack at a few estuarys etc.and im getting a bit older and slightly fat-ish and have used up what must be my last chance with the law a couple of times, think three strikes your out  not that much is going to change but id like to have a go at it without someone keeping lookout or haveing to try legit or swim to the otherside etc,so i was actualy wondering.what the law was cause iv never fort to ask before, :thumbs:its like do we ask? or do we just av it? case they say no  so where do i stand if i sling my new fancy net out in tidal water?? :victory::D Edited by ooty

Best to check with your local fisheries department as the laws differ around the country.. Up this neck as long as its white fish that you are after and the net is of a legal twine (single stranded mono is a no no up here) and that the nets not drifting plus at least a mile away from a river mouth then you can get away with a lot of things! Aint it a strange law " if your net happens to hold a Salmon /Sea trout dead or alive the law states that it has to be released or thrown back dead,,, somehow i have never took heed of this silly law :whistling: ...

Netting laws were a little different in my old neighbourhood,I often had 150 yards of netting right across the river, though not at the estuarine mouth but further upstream, never once prosecuted for it neither,so obviously legal, none of the anadromous fish I netted ever held owners-tags nor names and return-addresses,neither do I suspect they were bar-coded either, however should I have been committing an unlawful act then i was fully prepared to accept the consequences of my actions :victory:

the coast round here is hard fishing and often a waist of time with a rod, theres been a few good bass showing on the estuarys in north suffolk, was told that anyone had the right to net tidal waterbut im not sure, like you say maty j 1 way to find out,fed up pf paying 10 quid for 50 worms another 10 on deisel and catching nothing off this coast, norfoks shallow beaches you have to go south for deep water and better fish.

I really didnt think there was anything remotely illegal re netting in the salt, be it near a river mouth or not. Fisticuffs chaps then count me out :icon_eek:

You know it's much more exciting when your not supposed to be there. I hardly ever get any bother when im doing my thing, well thats if you dont include this past 6 days. In one week i've been caught red handed by a farmer who happened to be very big and scary looking, nearly caught by some keepers and last night had a disagreement with a farmer and his tractor :clapper: Johnno off this site will vouch for what a great escape we had last night. It looked like we were done for, we had a hedge one side of the car and a tractor and trailer the other side. There was a tiny cap inbetween the two but this had a fair sized ditch across it. Bareing in mind we were only in a peugeot, we looked proper f****D. What do you do in a situation like that bale and leave the car? speak very nicely to the farmer? NO you floor the accelerator and steam towards the ditch as fast you can hoping you somehow get through it. :clapper: we made it aswell, f****d the car, but we made it. :clapper: :clapper:

And what exactly were you after Joe :nono:
