J Darcy 5,871
personally i think people worry about flavours too much. Give the top man on a water a bag of "strawberry Creme" and he will still outfish everyone else.....JMHO..... Its all down to location and presentation IMHO....JD Quote Link to post

Sounds like thats just beginers luck gazza I was refering to someone being consistantly successful. Its all down to where and how you place a bait....(presentation and location)...i personally beleive the actual flavour to be of little imporatance to the fish, it more important to the angler. The guy who can hit the top of a bar and uses a breadflake will outfish someone just casting "out there"into the weed with the "latest"baits....IMHO....JD Quote Link to post

maty j 6
to make a 2lb mix this is what i use as a BASE MIX. 3/4lb soya flour costs about 60p 3/4lb milk powder costs about 90p just under 1/2lb of semilina costs about 50p 4 good size table spoons of egg albumin (powered egg) costs about 30p 4 good sized eggs 1/8 pint of milk Is there anything I can substitute for the soya flour, I can't find It anywhere. I eventually found some semolina today after going around 8 different shops! I can't find the egg powder either but I'll top that up with real eggs. Quote Link to post
maty j 6
I had my flavourings through today so made a couple of batches up - strawberry and scopex. I made some with a fish meal ground bait yesterday as a practise for when the flavours came and found I was rolling them too big so brought the size down for today and they turned out alright I think. I picked up some fructose (under a quid) and 2 bottles of food colouring (24p each) from the local supermarket so that saved me a fair bit with the cost of dyes and sweeteners. They smell and look the part and can't wait to try them out Gonna try making some tutti frutti tomorrow If I have time and some strawberry and scopex mix. Quote Link to post
mole catcher 1
they look the part maty i tend to use the rule of thumb regarding home mades and its far removed from what many have to say on the subject. To this i say i cant be doing to much wrong to be catching virgin carp from the rivers. My rule of thumb is you have to roads to which you can go down, strong in smell and short in life, or mild in smell and catches well. Ive come to the conclusion that a strong smelling carp may catch but its catching life is short lived where as a mild smelling boilie will catch over a longer period. I always feel if it smells strong to me it may spook the fish untill the bait has become a little washed out and to prove my poit ive looked back over my angling diarys. Throught out my early days when fishing the whole weekend (3 nights), i found i would consistantly catch more on a washed out bait than a new bait. This is something ive found follows true over the last 15 plus yrs ive carp fished. Maty i wish you all the best buddy, like ive said in my pm i sent you, let me know how you get on Quote Link to post
maty j 6
Thanks MC. On the bottle It said between 2-5ml per 6 egg mix. I used approx 0.5 ml In a 1 egg mix. I can smell It but wouldn't say It was overpowering. The richworth boilies I usually use are strong and funnily enough I have never caught on them As soon as I put on 2 sensas boilies I caught In under a half hour, Coinsidence? I'll let you know how I get on with them mate Quote Link to post
