ultimathule 29
Hi again. Had the two male kits for a few days now and am well up on how they should have as much space to run in as possible and plenty things to do. At the moment and certainly for the short term, they are in their 4ft double hutch(I know a court is ideal but not an option just now) the vast majority of the day and to allow them to let of steam I take them in the house and let them run around the wooden floors and just generally scramble about for about 45mins(not exstatic bout that but I feel I owe them that at least). The problem I have is when its time for me to put them back in their hutch and they are all hyper enjoying themselves, and I go to pick them up,they get a little annoyed to say the least! Ends up they are impossible to pick up without being bitten and them making all sorts of foul ferret language! They are fine when I take them out of theur hutch. Any ideas? Should I stop taking them inside for a run about and just handle them next to the hutch or what? Will they calm down? They are supposedly 11wks but dont know if they are really a bit older as they are bigger than there mum and nearly same size as dad. Any help appreciated Quote Link to post

jultaylor1972 2
Im lucky, I have a court for mine - but thats not to say I didnt start with a hutch. I made them a tunnel play centre and had to play with them in my garage for at least an hour every day, mine were exactly the same they were wild when I put them back in the hutch! In fact - even now I go in the court with them for as long as possible and when I come out they run wild! They just crave attention and take some wearing out. Im sure your ferrets are just normal and you seem to be treating them as well as you can! Well done Quote Link to post
stubby 175
your letting them run around for 45 minutes, but are you interacting with them stick a couple of plastic bags on the floor, they go crazy, but get down there with them, handle them, slide them across the floor, tease them, chase them, get them used to fingers etc, a court is no different to a front room floor, space is good, but handling is better, far better to handle them lots and keep in a 4ft hutch, than let them have a massive court, but think that theres no need to handle as they have space now our daughter has a pet ferret that lives in a very large cage in the front room, its silly tame, grooms the hairs on your arms a few weeks back I took a little jill kitt out of the court, who was a terrible biter, would bite and NOT LET GO and put her in the indoor cage, alix gets them both out after school each day, and throws them about like you would'ent belive, but the little jill bites no longer, she'll have a play nibble and thats it, there was no smacking nose's, pushing fingers down throat, or scruffing, just PLENTY OF HANDLING Quote Link to post
ultimathule 29
your letting them run around for 45 minutes, but are you interacting with them Your quite right stubby,Im usaully sat on couch or wandering about. Looks like I need to get down to their level and accept Im gonna get bitten loads. Just that pissed off squabbling sound they make that makes me wary when I grab them! Seems the old motto "No pain,no gain" would be appropriate here!lol Cheers for answers guys Quote Link to post
