Rolfe 2
I was driving past one of the farms i have permission on and noticed the harvester was just on the last couple of cuts. I had the lurcher with me, so I jumped out of the van and hoped the dog might get a few runs. He knows the harvest game like the back of his paw now.........this being the start of his third season. He was soon watching the wheat for signs of movement......then he carefully positioned himself where he thought the rabbit would bolt. It is a dangerous game at times when using a lurcher around a combine........so unless the dog is well trained it is best to keep a dog on a lead and to only slip it when it is safe to do so. The combine driver and my dog know the game well....and i trust both of them implicitly........so i never get too concerned if a rabbit turns and heads back to the machinery...i know the driver is watching and he will raise the bed. Anyway..........only 2 rabbits were left in the last cut..........the dog had one......the other slipped away to safety, unseen by the dog...! All in all........it was an enjoyable 20 minutes break from work. Rolfe. Quote Link to post
