Yokel Matt 918
I shot some rabbits at the weekend and, while paunching the bag, noticed something i've never seen before One rabbit, a full grown doe in early stages of pregnancy had thick layers of what i can describe a viscus yellow gunk encasing its internal organs  . It was the colour of an egg yoke and was everywhere. Around the kidneys, the intestines, liver.. even up under the diaphram and around the heart. What was more suprising is that it was unter the skin against the saddle. It looked healthy enough through the scope... it was shot through the head which blew its eyes out so i couldn't tell if anything was wrong there. At first i though it was just unusual coloured fat but it was on lush grass for beef cattle grazing so i couldn't imagine what it could have been eating to turn it that colour. I've never seen this is what must be thousands of rabbits i've paunched in the past... its go my curiosity going. Any ideas?

Yes i have seen it many times........all the fatty tissue and membrane are a vivid yellow colour.......i am not sure what causes it though........because all the rabbits from the same area are usually quite normal. It would be interesting to find out what does cause it, maybe someone has an idea.....i don't think is is caused by what they have been feeding on though. Rolfe. The one 8,612
Could it have been feeding on bark or gorse ?? the tanning (spelling) can cause the rabbits fat to turn yellow

Have you dug holes in the back garden?Faeces coming out in pellet form?Craving for carrots?Increased night vision?

Have you dug holes in the back garden?Faeces coming out in pellet form?Craving for carrots?Increased night vision? now you mention it... but i put the pellet like faeces down to too much red meat and guiness! The others i have taken from there, same field, same bury, had no symptoms... I've also taken a lot of rabbits from around heavy gorse scrub areas in Dorset and not seen this before. I don't doubt the reasoning behind it but can't say i've ever seen it before. Can't say it looked very appitising
