feeding

Recommended Posts

i realise this has probably been done to dead but since its been so long from i've kept ferrets, i just wanted to confirm this was all right. i feed my dogs on a good barf diet and assumed the same grub would do for the ferrets ? i have to admit i don't like the idea of feeding meal at all. thanks

Fresh meat mate it's the only way to feed ferrets

fresh meat, raw bone, fat, and organs...

the important thing is to mix it up.. if you fed them only muscle meat .. you would be depriving them of much needed nutrients..

but if you can manage whole prey... or to mix it up daily with bits and pieces needed... there is NO need for the kibble stuff!

poo will be less and contrary to a recent post to the opposite.. it Definitely smells less on a Raw diet !

Rabbits , pigeons, dry complete food, if none of these are available.

You can get a decent size bag of good quality complete ferret food from Jollys (LIFESTYLE), for a decent price, does them no harm, if whole carcass food is not easily got.

The link below, also shows where their is a store near you, their all in the north of Ireland, just click the store locator tab.

well i get a different view than many hunters....

i have LOTS of pet's only friends who feed kibble only... lol... the difference in the poo corners we clean up is amazing! the only reassurance they DO have is constancy... their poos will always look exactly like the kibble that went in only squishier lol. and they can judge the health of the ferrets stomach by abnormal poos...

but those that see mine .. ( after freaking out cause there is something black and tarry.. ie i fed liver last night lol) they notice the smell isn't nearly as offensive ... and while i have 7 pooing in one spot... there is still less and smaller poos all together.. and certainly a much less offensive pong to the whole mess

The cereals and undigestable colours and aditives go through their ferrets where as most meat, bone, cartalige, organs.. are digested by mine...
