OK, I have been using a SAK and an ASE Utra on my .22 Anschutz rimfire but I want something quieter!

I am not too worried at the cost but it has to be really quiet as I am getting agro from the stables!

I am using Eley subs, these are not as quiet as the rems. but far more reliable what can I do?

im not too up to date with the Anschutz rifles, but is your rifle a bolt action or a semi ?

i use a ruger semi & a cz varmint bolt action & have a sak on each, i find my bolt action like chalk & cheese compared to my semi due to action noise even though i have a dampener inside..

what im going to do to make my ruger more quieter is put two of my saks together, i can unscrew the front piece of the sak & screw the other sak up front " probably not recommended from the manufacturers " but ill try it, obviously it wont make the action quieter, but reduce the muzzle sound..

Im using eley subs in my cz and the moderator is a "nameless" one but its ssooooooooo quite, barely any noise at all.

Im pretty shocked your getting agro from stables, i could fire my rimmy right next to livestock (horses included) with no problems at all- and i often do! BUT......I bought a jet z mod for my .223 and its GREAT! really, really impressive. Might be worth giving it a dose of looking at mate.

your more then likely find its not the report of the rifle making the noise your about as silent as you can get with subs and sak or ase mod.

its more then likely the bullet hitting where most the noise comes from a 22 rimfire

I would also think it its the crack or thump hitting the target. Mine CZ with sak mod on Winnie subs is silent, until it hits it's target. Lead on skull is quite a reasuuring sound, means humane kill....

Well...I was wondering....22LR with subs and a SAK or ASE, it really isn't going to get much quieter, (Mr Logic uses a DM80 Hornet moderator on his rimmy sometimes, it's good but I don't think it will be any better than a ASE...which probably has the edge on the SAK) but surely cbw can tell the difference between report crack and arrival thump???? :hmm:

Unless, as mentioned, and not yet clarified, it is a semi-auto, hence reference to the reliability factor, it could be the action cycling which is creating the

noise?? but not sure how you could improve on the SAK/ASE with SUB ammo combination..Unless the MOD is U/S ?

Interesting

Hi Deker, I was not sure so I pointed it into the air and fired a few rounds off........

No seriously all thankyou for your pointers on this it looks like I have not been cleaning the ase properly.

I was advised to soak it in cleaner which I have been doing as they are buggers to strip, I finaly stripped it down and it was totaly clogged.

I now have a clean ase!!!!

Yep..easy...but I'm not the one asking about a quieter mod......

Err is someone missing something here..maybe me...I was suggesting cbw must be able to tell the difference from gun report to target but you guys seem to be suggesting he can't???

Perhaps, if you can't get a quieter mod, then limit your shooting to days that have a bit more of a breeze. I've found wind really quietens any shots down due to trees, bushes etc all rustling away. Yes, I realise shots will be a bit tougher but something to think about if the mod avanue doesn't work out.
