hanible the ferret

Recommended Posts

our kits have been weaned now for two weeks and are almost ready to go, we removed them gradulary as this was her first time and she had 11 and although she done a brill job the kits really took it out of her. she rejoined her conpanion a week ago but we have had to seperate them as she will not leave the other jill alone and has made all her neck sore with dragging her around. she is now alone and is behaving like a rabbid ferret, she is constantly knoring at her hutch and bites when we try to handle her. we had bred ferrets for several years and iv had them on there toes for a while after the kits go but never like this! has anyone else ever had this as im not sure whar else to do with her.

they are ten weeks now she had them with her until they where eight and a half weeks, they were all fully weaned as her milk had dried up when they were about eight weeks. the kits are all big and healthy but mum isnt doing nearly as well. she is eating and drinking well but is behaving like a looney, im worried she is going to damage her teeth and feet with all the chewing and digging.

she is just stressed out ,i would put the kits your keeping back with her .and to get to handle the kits without her getting you give her a bit of cat milk to drink to keep her mind occupied she will soon come round and calm down, .good luck

we have quite a large court which our two jills share, we want our two young kits to live in with them im just afraid to put them back in with her in case she drags them in and out of the bedding area which is what she has been doing to the other jill, she hasnt even been allowing the other jill to leave to eat without pulling her back.

She will settle down just needing a bit time . The jill i took the kitts off of here flys up the wire and sits on top of the hutch looking for her kitts but in two or three weeks she will have forgotten about them

It COULD be hormones from being a mum... THIS should settle with time.. but if it doesn't... you may need to consider having her spayed.. this would sort out what ever hormones are causing the OVERLY maternal stuff... takes a few weeks after a spay to settle but when they do .. there is a marked improvement..
