DS - When i said raw meet in the house, it was more the fact of her running round the house with a meaty bone in her mouth i was thinking, She lives inside and eats inside you see.

:icon_redface: As I type this, one of mine's over on my bed, eating a bone. I give that one what is effectively three lamb chops a night. In her bowl. She Always takes them out, one after the other, and retires to my bed to enjoy each one. And yes; The head end!

Blech  Ditch that's just wrong!!!

Gaz tell your parents the raw thing isn't as bad as it sounds at first. I had concerns about it too, having small kids crawling round etc. Tis fairly simple to be sensible with it. She can't run round the house if you feed her in a crate, for instance. Or outside. Mine gulp their food down where I put their bowls, but with wings and bones they like to go to their bed. So I just put the food on their beds and Bob's your uncle, no running about with raw meat for the kids to play with ;)

If I were you I'd try to educate them about it a bit more. It's the better way to feed, by far.

Any self-respecting dog would take its dinner to the head end ditch, I remember the photos of your feet

try telling them the benifits they will enjoy (not the dog's)

1 the poop is smaller portions and dries up faster = no more nasty piles to step in at night!

2 the dogs breath is cleaner because the bones do a good job of scrubbing away plaque.

3 shedding is minimal because a dog that sheds excessively is usually suffering from malnutrition.

4 fleas arent as big a problem - so i have heard said. i treat my dogs regardless.... but i have HEARD the flea infestations are next to nothing with raw fed dogs.

5 same with internal parasites. especially if you add a bit of garlic.

6 hyper activity/nervousness isnt as bad with a raw fed dog.... but i have also heard the opposite. so maybe it depends on the dog. if its a healthy well worked dog then hyperactivity wont be an issue anyway.

7 vet bills will go down because it is said that raw fed dogs enjoy better health and longer lives because they arent eating preservatives/dyes/hormones which we all know result in cancer at some point.

8 some say its cheaper to feed raw... the dog doesnt require as much. but this goes back to #1.... the smaller piles of crap are missing one major ingredient you find in dog food... CORN!!!

or you could just read this

and yeah i read all of that to my husband and he witnessed the poop thing for himself..... he thinks its crazy, too expensive and "whats wrong with F*cking Pedigree??"

one other thing i've heard but not 100% sure on, but i've heard you can feed a dog a diet of nothing but eggs.....

for instance a dog about 70lbs will get about seven or eight eggs for a meal.

now if its true or not i dont know. i know there have been days when i've only given eggs because thats all i had that day.

Hi Blue Coyote, with regards to the fleas, I heard that too when I started feeding raw bones etc about ten years ago and thought it seemed a claim too far but since then I've had virtually no flea problems (touch wood). I was writing about this somewhere recently but I can't remember which forum it was on so excuse me if I've just repeated myself. :icon_redface:

Cheers to all who have replied, can anyone else comment on what blue coyote said about feeding ONLY eggs???

Obviously its not something i would consider (feeding an all egg diet) but its an interesting claim.

I guess theres alot of protein there, but not sure about outher nutritional values of egg.

Cheers

Gaz
