Terrier work in northern ireland

Recommended Posts

think you'll find no mention of northern ireland having the ban

Please note UK Members as of February 2005 hunting with dogs within (England, Scotland & Wales) is banned with the exception of RATS & RABBITS which are still legal quarry. (took off this site)

The use of dogs for finding quarry is not illigal no mater how many are used, the hunting of quarry when it knows it's being hunted is illigal(unless rats or rabbits). You can use 2 dogs to flush to a gun,so you could use 2 greyhounds or saluki's to flush a hare to a man with a gun in the next field, remembering to be safe with the gun when the dogs are to close to the hare;) although there not allowed to catch it.The digging of foxes is also not illigal as long as it's for game bird protection and it's in every ones interests to help the wild bird population ;) on every farm. You can use as many dogs as you like to find quarry it's a point of law when cruilty comes into it as a animal has to know it's being hunted to suffer the stress that the anti's used to get the shite law passed in the first place,it's at this time when the hunted knows it's being hunted that only 2 dogs can then be used to flush to the gun.

this doesnt apply to n.ireland, its still legal to hunt here and to dig foxes.

like i have said and dev as said its perfectly legal in northern ireland to dig as you used to be allowed before the hunting act (read the hunting act.)

ps fireman you can only use one dog below ground shows how much you know.

Who said and who would use 2 dogs to ground?,i was trying to help point out the law and that in this country england you can pretty much carry on as you used to do but have to now dig for game bird protection. You seem to not know how law works, the hunting with dogs is not against the law.Not as free as it used to be but still with a little thought not so hard to do,read the act i have and it ain't changed much to me or a lot of others you just need to use your brains(ahh i see your problem).

Thats great, i thought it was ok here, just wanted to double check again. Shame gun laws are more restrictive tho haha And slightly off topic, whats the standing with hare coursing, as I understand it the brown hare is protected in NI at the moment so isn't allowed to be hunted or shot, is this correct?

It's completely legal to dig foxes here, so is the use of dogs for drawing quarry. It is also legal to take them with lurchers from cover or on the lamp. Hare coursing was banned by the british minister Angela Smith before powers were devolved to Stornmount.

It's not legal to use a dog to draw a fox .It's seen as causeing 2 animals to fight so leave the pictures of the inter-net boys. It does nothing for terrier work or hunting.

It is legal to use terriers in fox control.

The hare has full protection in the North.

In the South it is totally illegal to course a hare except with greyhounds at a coursing meeting run under the rules of the I.C.C.

The beagle hunts must apply for a liscence every year of the minister of the enviroment (that asshole John Gormley) and you can shoot hares with a shotgun if you've a game liscence.

Thanks very much, Pretty much how I thought things stand. Though I wonder how long it will be this way. At the risk of sounding completely stupid and ignorant, what is meant by drawing a fox? Am very keen to get into digging and don't want to make a prat of myself if I fall in with the right people haha

Drawing a fox properly is when after you've removed your terrier you get in yourself and remove the fox. If the fox is to be released then it's released.

Or as is commonly done nowadays a 60lb running dog is let in to the hole whilest it's owners stand around thinking they're looking at some real competition.

JMHO

The best way is to lift your terrier and shoot the fox in the stop end.
