Guest Ditch_Shitter
Love the old 'Labels' / Badges, OTC! That Wyatts is a f*cking beauty! I probably have an interesting Youngs one on my HDD somewhere; " S. Young and Son " It's ealed up inside the Little Owl I have here, mounted and cased by Sam Young. God knows, I have shit here relating to them that hasn't seen the light of day since ..... Rolfe; Ye Sparrow Trap is, as said above, a more modern 'rip off' of the " Eclipse " style. So many people were doing that over the years, there's no quick way of knowing who might have made that one. And I'm a little rushed right now. I'll check my Fuller catalogue later, just to see what he was up to along those lines. But there really were so many ..... Incidentally; The " Youngs " New Forest was a design invented by a Mr Young. Gamekeeper of the New Forest. I just f*cking near broke my neck earlier, tripping over my own one! But it's NOT to be confused with S.Young & Sons (Misterton). Nothing to do with them. Now where's everyone else on this one? This could become a fantastic 'Show and Bragg' Thread! Let's see some Kit! Quote Link to post

Guest Ditch_Shitter
Oh now, Chalks; That Monarch causes me to pause, mate! I just Love bars, as opposed to mesh! And the Monarch's simply one of my favourite traps, yet I no longer posess a barred one Got an old mesh one here, with one of their Really old 'Badges' on, like what OTC's shown us above. But I Do like bar made shit. Don't know why Now; What's the NF doing, stuck har up against the tree like that? You found them to work that way? Never tried mine out. Too bloody valuable to leave out over night, for my tastes! Now, where I am, I could do it with relaxed casuality. But there's no sign of any squirrels to catch in it ..... And ye like the Fuller? I have a couple of models here. See above though. Never were an 'affordable' bloody trap; As Users or Collectors! But then, I s'pose, considering they used to cost, what? Seven quid a throw, back in '73? (Loads 'a Money!!!) and now the modern answer, the Kania ....! I have no f*ckin Kania's either. Quite content not to have poxy squirrels all over the place either, come to that. I suspect our wall to wall Pine Marten will keep the few we're said to have developed under control Your Cages, Gentlemen; PLEASE!!! Actually; I might dig into my own stores, maybe tomorrow, and drag out some Real Shit to show the youngesters on here Fenn stuff they've never imagined But We know; Don't we, Chalks! OldTrapCollector 377
I have not seen the welded rod Young's Monarch before either CW - they are usually woven wire or steel mesh. That Monarch I sent to you before Ditch had the round Young's badge on it didn't it? Keep them coming lads, I am interested in any old traps including the cages - fascinating old things aren't they?? Matt 160
I've just fished this out of the shed. It is very similar to the Youngs, but has no label. I'm not sure if its a copy, or if the label has somehow become detatched. Even the twists on the wire are the same as the Young pictured by Ditch. Sorry about the picture quality - I'm no David Bailey...... Quote Link to post
Guest Ditch_Shitter
That's the Youngs Rat Cage, Matt! Little belter, aren't they? I have all three here. That one. The 'Cat' one I showed and the big Fox one. Now I come to think of it; I believe the cat one's the only one baring the tab. So I suspect, for some reason, they just never put them on the others? OTC; Don't ask me where I got the bloody thing from! Can't remember jack shit about where half my stuff originated these days! Lovely badge though. Like what ye showed up there. Interesting thing is ~ and here's something for ye to note, look ~ that one's made of mesh, where as the first Monarch I ever came across (this'd be thirty six years back now) was, if I remember rightly, a bar one. And it had the thin strip tab like on the two traps I showed above. Sort of muddies the water really, doesn't it? I'd have assumed the mesh ones were later. But so are the strip badges. 'Mind you; They weren't averse to just using what ever was to hand sometimes, so ..... Edited to say: F*ck my old boots! Just seen Chalkie's Post again! That's exactly what I was on about, look! So that proves it! My mind Wasn't playing tricks on me! Quote Link to post
OldTrapCollector 377
John B has one of those too Matt - from a trade with me a while back. They were the earlier type with the wired on sections prior to galvanisation. The later ones had a sheet steel base and were welded together. there was also a 'half' trap made too - a single entry made from one half of a double entry but wired on and galvanised - not chopped down later. I have also seen them with a wooden box at the bait end of the trap too (like the Martin trap). OTC Quote Link to post
