damashaman 1
I know an old terrierman who has this wierd quirk. I showed him my two black terriers, and when he saw the bitch he said "that's got patterdale in it" I thought WTF is he going on about? He says this a lot, and it really has baffled me. I thought they were one and the same thing??? My dog is a taller rough type (N Stevens, Parks /Wheeler) and my bitch is a small smooth big headed type. (Nuttall/ Brightmore mix) Can anyone help as this has done me head right in Ta Quote Link to post

Damashaman, I often wonder the same.I was told by a fellow that they are all "Fells",but the name Patterdale stuck, due to a good many coming from the area "Patterdale".Also, that Nuttall's terriers had become almost a type unto themselves, being known for their bully head, smooth coat(mostly)etc. and being neither properly classified as Fells or Patterdales.(I don't know,so if this is not correct, sorry) craig Quote Link to post

runforyourlife 361
There is no difference whats so ever. They were bred in cumbria for flushing the fox out of the crags, and gullies on the cumbrian fells(hence fell terrier). The hunts men called for them when one of the charlies went to ground, especially around patterdale(hence patterdale terrier) a ver rocky and holey area of cumbria. Quote Link to post
