alimac 882
went out rabbiting last night with my mate and brother to see if we could get a good bag of rabbits. his land is packed with them so i thought we where in for a big bag. but the rabbits where very shy and the weather wasnt the best the sky was very clear and there wasnt any wind so it was silent. we saw a fair amount bout as we took it in turns we only got 5 in the end i wasnt bothered as we got out for a couple of hours. and we had 30 mins just on a target board to see if the rifles where ok. my hmr and 22lr was hitting the bull time and time again and so was my mates 22lr. at the end of the night i gutted the rabbits and we where just chatting away packed the rifles away and was just about to leave but my mate had a quick look with the lamp and there in the field was a fox about 170 yards. my mate called and it came in to about 110 yards. i went round the back of the 4x4 got my hmr back out and loaded up. i git on the back of the 4x4 so the rifle was on the roof. the fox was just sat there about 100 to110 yards. i was sure i could take him but i no he was intrested in the call so i had a go on the wam i had. my mate turned the lamp off and put it back on the fox was into 55 yaards by then. i was ready on the rifle and new that was a good range to take a head shot so as he look left a little i shot him in the side of the head it went down on the spot and didnt even move. i ws very pleased as this is the 1st fox ive ever shot so to get one was very good and i was happy i was a instant kill which is allways good here is the picture well done mate ,, first of many i hope keep your eyes peeled --looks like she could have cubs about!! theres no "could have cubs" she definately has them, thats as clear as day, the question is did he look for them or do a typical rifle bragade thing and not bother??? Mr_Logic 5
well done mate........you can clearly shoot well but why shoot head shots when theres no intention of eating it, it increases the chances of wounding and missing........engine room every time if i can see it headshots as last resort With an HMR? Rubbish! Head shot every time. HMR will happily hit the head out to 120 yards or more, and far, far more chance of a clean kill with it. At 55 yards, a head shot is easy-peasy (though Jamie, it's NOT easy when it's the first one and the adrenaline is going, I know full well!) and is my preferred method of dispatch. Jamie - nice shooting mate, well done - sure it will be the first of many. Aren't Steyr SSGs the heaviest rifle imaginable? I don't know the Winchester but even my old Sako would be too heavy for a field rifle really. Edited May 5, 2008 by Mr_Logic Quote Link to post
Yokel Matt 918
Nice shooting bud, I agree head shot every time on fox with an hmr. With a rimfire I'd only go for a boiler room shot if i was shooting high velocity .22. Quote Link to post
