skycat 6,174
Sorry, but I'm going to disagree! If a pup is seriously overweight then its growing joints and bones can be under too much pressure. Yes, they need to be well covered and not scrawny, but not fat. Some pups are really greedy and will eat until they can't move: they shouldn't look like bloated balloons after a meal, which is why it is better to feed pups little and often when they are young: that way they don't feel hungry for too long, then guts themselves when you do feed them. If you are worried if your pup is overweight then stick a couple of photos up for us to see. Quote Link to post

doxhope 2
Is there such thing as a overweight pup?? Better well covered than not, a well covered pup will always thin down, I remember visiting a litter years ago, the breeder (well I use that term lightly..the bloke who had the pups) said they are very racy looking arnt they..They sure were, but they shouldnt have been..Thats what rearing on kebab meat and left overs from the fish and chip shop does for them I would find it very difficult to remeber ever of see-ing a pup that could be deemed as over weight..a pup will eat till its full, and that is that, they will sleep it off, shit it out and start again. If a pup is grossly over weight, not just well covered, I would be thinking theres a problem That young dog in the picture, is not overweight, bit puppy fat and just hasnt shaped up yet. I was thinking you were taking about much younger pups, and what I wrote above was being directed at pups before 4 meals a day would be starting to get reduced. Quote Link to post
