Rhodey 96
Is it possible to just use purse nets? I don't know how to set a long net and no one to teach me, my dog is an 11 year old collie x and can't catch rabbits if he did he wouldn't bring them back he's just a pet. Do you reckon I will have much success or do I need to get a crash course in long netting? Quote Link to post
Guest Ditch_Shitter
Bloody sure ye can! Long net's a great addition, in some circumstances. Purse nets are fine alone though. Quote Link to post
moxy 617
Of course it is possible to just use purse nets Thats all i use. One of the benefits with a long net is if you miss a bolt hole or two you have a long net as back-up. Quote Link to post
Rhodey 96
Cheers wasn't to sure as most pics and vids i've seen everyone seems to use long nets a lurchers surpose it's just to get the excapees. Rhodey 96
Any one in the stoke/stafford area fancy taking a novice out for an insight on how to ferret properly? Quote Link to post
Guest Ditch_Shitter
Rhodey; What ye have to realise is that, even just ten years ago, hardly Any f*cker was ferreting to long nets. The damn things were so shrouded in an air of mystery and there just weren't enough who truly knew how to use them to go round. Then there seems to have been an explosion of some sort and now, as ye seeing, the Non ownership of a long net appears to be the exception. Viva the internet, in that respect, I s'pose? Anyway, while ye looking out for a mentor, why not get onto Google and find yeself a copy of a book called " The Ferret and Ferreting Guide " by Graham Welstead. It's available second hand for under a tenner and is a mini classic. Reading that'll prime ye up nicely on all aspects of the game Quote Link to post
T78 4
ive never used a long net, just purse nets.although i keep threatening to get one and learn to use it! Quote Link to post
Garn 0
Ferreting ain't rocket science. It's simple and based on pure logic. Get yourself the plummer book on ferrets, that'll give you the basics. It's just then for you to work things out for yourself. You really, really can't go wrong Quote Link to post
dytkos 18,005
You will need ferrets as well! Cheers, D. Quote Link to post
The one 8,596
We mainly use purse nets and only use the long nets on one piece of ground ,you just need to be a bit more quieter walking over the berry putting nets on the holes but they pick up the hole hoppers that the longnets dont Quote Link to post
