ferret dead

Recommended Posts

Well just wondering if anyone has had this before as it's a first for me. Went down to feed the ferts this morning and only three out of the four showed, on closer inspection i could see the jill laying still on the bedding obviously dead so opens it up and to my horror she was half eaten from the waist down, now she seemed fine albeit a bit sluggish yesterday but now it's got me worried, if she has come down with something as quickley as that then the chances are the others are gonna have picked something up off of her by eating her...has anyone else ever had ferts eat another?

think ive only had it with younsters, last year i left all jills in together, and all were with young and all born in same run, alldoin well and then about the six week age,,i lost all but two, the jills killed and eat them ,they are strange to keep, and ive kept and worked ferrets over 30 year, never had problems, now i split them up again.

smiler thing happened about 40 years ago.A jill had a litter of about 6 young all doing well and weaned, mother lost the use of her back legs but she could still get about using her front legs.Next day the young had eaten her back end ." Weared "and a bit spookie never seen it or heard anything like it till now :icon_eek:

Its only happened once with me.I had a court with 2 jills & 2 hobs,i bred from the working jill as the other jill wasn,t much of a worker.i put in a 10 week kit(jill) in with them,no problems, ferts happy, plenty of food.Went in to feed them one morning & the jill was eating the kit head first :icon_eek: this fert would,nt even tackle a rabbit it was docile, soft as clarts needless to say i gave it to a mate who wanted a pet only...
