Teachers and their pay

which leads me back to the point of this thread Missie, £176 a fortnight? How does £165 a morning sound :whistling: myself I work for me and job satisfaction, if I don't like it I don't do it and to hear folk moan about their lot is just so feckin boring as you said it would be so nice if evetyone loved their work

I was 17 and doing a job I loved so I didn't care. Things change however, I couldn't do it now. I would love to do a job that I adore that pays well but in horses it doesn't happen unless you have the money to progress yourself which I don't.

I'm hoping after my degree i'll still be in a profession I love although with the state of the NHS who knows if there will be any jobs for me to go too...

What do you all think about this then? Any teachers on here that would be prepared to give us their opinions on their unions conference taking place this weekend and their take on what their members deserve? :drink:

Yo I'm A Carpentry and Joinery Lecturer at a college, yep the pays not bad, and the holidays are good, and yes we deserve every penny we get, can you imagine trying to educate 25 -30 kids, imagine looking after you worst mightmare niece or nephew well may be a bit of exeragerating but in my class I have 75% of the group need some sort of learning support or have adhd, turets, (I dont want to affend any one) but some times it's nearly an impossible task, why because of the goverments mamby pamby attitude towards any form of punishment , and TO many parents don't have control of their kids, if we phone a parent of a 17 year old for some form of support to back us up and and try to get the student in to college and help them, 50% of the time we get how the f**k do you expect us to help your the teacher, as if we have all the answers, I think the problem is the basic break down of family life and discpline, most parents dont want their children disiplined by any one in authority let alone a teacher.it stems from poor education read the Leitch report December 2006 read it proerly how many millions of parents cant read or write and have literacy and numeracy levels of a 5 year old, so come on make an argument why teacher should'nt more money, my missus work in a junior school and some kids cant even use a knife and fork this is not an educational issue to teach kids how to eat, Don't blame the kids it the parents and lack of control, OK rant over of course this might only be a small percentage of parents and kids but it's enough to make a difference to all the kids who do want to learn, kids who can't be disciplined are impossible to control in a class, discipline start from a young age,you cant teach an old dog new tricks, sorry if I affended any one, lack of educational is not a excuse for bad manner, rudeness and ultimatly voilence or aggression.

i sold one of my farm cottages a couple of yrs back for£400,000 the person who bought it took a 95% morgage,i suppose it was means tested by the bank at that time, now his payments were £1800 a month interest only,in the 2 yrs peoples circumstances change and if the person now had a £34000 a yr job he wouldnt get enough to cover the morgage payments never mind live, also that is interest only and he put down close to £40,000 in deposit and stamp duty,so is £34,000 anothe to live, mark

Some people just want to toss it off for as long as possible at university doing a useless degree.

When reality bites and they finally need to get a job then teaching is about all they can use the degree for.

I'm not talking about all but a good number.

Lucky we have tuition fees, but maybe it could be more flexible with people taking on degrees for jobs are in demand.

:clapper: thanks for the input from "the other side of the coin" so to speak and you certainly don't offend me  I totally agree with what you say about the parent stuff in regard to the behaviour of some children, but I don't think that will change by awarding more and more money to the teachers as the problem will still be there. :drink:

:clapper: , that's just it Mark, I don't think folk are prepared to adopt that attitude any more, they just seem to expect everything to come to them and there's no way they're going to get off their back sides and move on :drink:

I see different points of view I don't have to teach feck me I was lucky and done a 5yr apprentiship and scraped my way up to be a site Managerbut hard work pays off, but to teach I had to sacrifice another 2yr + just to teach my specialist subject which I'd practiced for 30 yr's, and I don't see the point of people tossing it of with degrees in snails racing and sexual habits, but it's no worse than kids leaving school and tossing it off for a measly £30 per week Educational maintenance allowance, just so they don't have to work, it's just a staging post for the dole queue.

Can any one explain to me why kids don't want to learn, but give them a computer type game which challenges their

intelligence to get to a higher level (which is all educationalist attempt to do) and you need a surgeon to remove their finger from the key board.

Teaching these days should have a Government health warning on it! the amount of teachers in my sons secondary school who have had a slap is unreal one even having her hair set fire to :whistling:. the trouble is they can't use any sort of physical punishment compared to when I was at school! teachers these days have their hands tied and the kids know it... would I want a teachers Job? Not f*****g likely....

On the other hand what I have a real gripe about is the way they seem to dish out Homework when kids should be learning more in the classes, my kids get piles of the stuff and it does my head in! they do near on 7 hours at school and then spend another good hour in the evening doing homework!! its not on and sometimes I think its too much asked of them.....

7 hours at school wow, this is my point one disruptive kid no one learns. PARENTS HELP US PLEASE GIVE YOUR KIDS MANNERS cost nought.

Home work should be encouraged so that when they do get a job they appreciate how easy it was at school and encourages them to think and solve problems for themselves with out any help, this will get them ready for work in most jobs people want their employee's to be able to solves problems on their own instead of boss I didnt do any work because I did not know how to turn the computer on. Lateral thinking, dont hurt.

I should have said this in the first place lets shift the blame, It's the teacher fault my kids can't be bothered to learn.
