Guest markbrick1
she is same breeding as my black bitch mate and i think its not a bad cross, mark well , there's a little bit of a strange one, im , going to breed , my dogs similarly to your breed , i must be doing something right , as your dogs seem to be really good specimens , i'll be happy if they turn out as good as yours , mark , but im very happy with what iv'e got just now yours are the same as marks black bitch but with out any whippet, both 1/8 collie the breeding your doing will leave you with what may as well be a whippet greyhound. and then sat to any stamina and that is very inportant, the pups mother was a fantastic little rabbit dog but 7 rabbits she was knackered the pup well she goes on and on even mush will tell you that, mark Quote Link to post
dennned 172
yes , mark , and , mush , i can see where your coming from , but they are predominatly grey hounds just now , dont want to lose any speed , the breeding for me is for the next generation , not this one , then i'll return to a collie x greyhound , as for the stamina , aspect , you train dogs for that , mine trot for around 4>6 miles behind the van regularly, anymore thoughts , yes i'll consider , but right now , it's a mike brown stud dog this bitch , still carries a lot of the collie gene , inside her , so that also had a bearing as to where she went Edited March 7, 2008 by dennned Quote Link to post
mush 204
what is it you trying to breed in? cant see any advantage of putting whippet in. Mark put a 1/4 bred collie to his W/G type bitch and did not lose any speed. As for stamina you can only get out whats in the dog and with a almost pure sighthound of that breeding thats not much Quote Link to post
TOMO 29,201
it seems to me that both you guys like your fast dogs ( denned mark ) both are 1/8 colie . so why not mate your dog denned to marks bitch. you would then in theory still keep an 1/8 colie , and with marks bitch having whippet in there will probly bring the size down, you may also get a few brocken coats, best of luck what ever way you go TOMO Quote Link to post

Mark put a 1/4 bred collie to his W/G type bitch and did not lose any speed. As for stamina you can only get out whats in the dog and with a almost pure sighthound of that breeding thats not much mush , i , can see and understand what you are saying , but we , as owners , strive to have the best , do we not , this bitch of mine , has stamina in abundance , and she has the tempermant and drive of a collie , not the greyhound , so it really is an experiment , what im trying to breed , as i said she carries loads of the collie traits , so introducing , whippet blood , to reduce some of the greyhound , is i think , for me , the way forward , possibly not for everyone , but if and when , it happens i would be only to pleased to keep you informed on there progress, but as with all , lurcher breeders , we cant really determine , how or what , they will turn out like , some may be good , some may be bad,but we must , strive to the next level, here's hoping i make the right choice. yours in sport dennned ps , thanks for your concerns , as to what , im trying to do Quote Link to post
dennned 172
i'd love to see a 5/8 grey x 3/8 saluki put over her...be ideal imo for running the fast fellas in the small fields paddy, im , not really into saluki x dogs , i prefer , collie x greyhound , this bitch has just recently won a marathon race over 1200mtrs around a greyhound track , so really she has lots of stamina, yes i can see the pros and cons , of putting whippet in her , but , nobody knows there dogs better than themselves, and i certainly know all thats good about my bitch , having had the same line for near on 25 yrs , i think it's time to try something new.
