I wonder if there's that many of them that they have learned to share territory?

In my patch, SW Scotland, its no exaggeration to state there's as many Roe as rabbits. Myxie and the virus RDH2? have decimated rabbits  whilst Roe numbers continue to increase. Land is so flat here that a safe shot when stalking is often difficult and they have no natural predators once they are adult .

I love to see them. By far my favourite deer species.

Same round my way,I can guarantee to see 3 or 4 groups of roe daily

Wow.

There was a pure white buck in this area. Some clown put a photo on mainstream media and the area became like a driveway for trophy hunters from far and wide.  Rumour has it  that some krauts turned up and got it.

Whoever got it , the buck disappeared within a week of publication.

I remember once ratching where I shouldn't have been and trod on a roe fawn/ kid. I grabbed my lurcher so it didn't grab it, then stepped back and trod on its twin.

Funny enough the dog didn't cotton on they were there. I've read they have very little scent at that age which saves them from predators.

reminds me of being on a old air base about 15 year ago, I had my old whippet with me, he was mooching along a hedge and stopped at a old gate post and darted in the hedge, i thought he'd got a rabbit or kaney, anyways he trotted upto me and dropped a muntjac fawn in me hands, normally he'd have give a rabbit a quick nip but he hadn't, I checked it over and put in down and it run up the hedge. Lovely little thing.
