Mine went straight through one of his flexer tendons on a flint couple years ago, never had it repaired and he now has a dropped toe never been a problem......a mate of mines lurcher had a toe removed and still no issues running her, should be all good👍

Rest is a wonderful thing don’t be in rush having toes off.

When it’s comes to toes rest needs to be long and slow. Long as in months slow as in no bouncing about. Vet wrap toe to one next to it  every time comes out the run onto a lead. Then if squirrel nips across road and dogs bouncing about its protected.

if you did end up having toe off the remaining toes need months to get used to to handling the extra strain.
any short cuts will bite you on ass or you may get lucky

good luck with it

talking from my experience as happened to my lurcher few years ago on some broken glass. The toe now sits up slightly and the nail does'nt touch the ground much so about once a year i have to trim that nail. Have not noticed any drop in his performance at all and for reference mine done a middle toe on rear paw. I couldnt tell you whats for the best for you tho.

Middle toe removel shouldn't cause any issues. Sometimes older dogs are not the same when there outer toes are removed.
