Daughter set off this morning on an epic adventure they are heading to the peak forest canal somewhere up toward Manchester to get some paintwork finished on the boat then across to rugby were the boa

Final leg of the journey boat is now dropped off at brokerage loading the mo ho and she’s heading back down signal cray in the margin and a few tunnel shots meanwhile the new boat arrived here in dry

Few from my journey back this morning the cream and brown building is the stables cafe and years ago was the stables for the tow horses that worked on the canal

It's a dear do then living on a boat I just wondered out of my own curiosity to be honest as asked him and he wasn't sure of everything and he didn't seem arsed as hes worth a few quid just wants out of his house said he feels like a prisoner in a house 🤣🤣. But wanted something for a base so he's goin boat route cheers for that pal

Can be done much cheaper as I say I’m at the top end of it I took a boat up to Stourbridge last year from here and the marina she went to was about half the price of this one, but good luck to the lad if he buys right he won’t loose on the boat if it’s not for him

Lots to go at so I,ll try and start at the beginning permanent moorings vary dramatically in price from marina to online moorings plus availability and competition so my marina is the only one on this whole canal so costs a premium I also have a fat boat so I take up two births but get charged one and a half which is around 7000/8000 per year I get my water and waste and a nice secure private car park river licence is about 1500 but again I get charged more because of width then insurance is around £300/400 I pay £18 every 2/3 months to empty my waste tank, council tax is only payable in a residential marinas though many non residential ones allow you to stay all year but you can’t get mail delivered or refuse taken and your meant to be out for 3 months a year blacking is every 4 years we’re the boat comes out the water mine will cost me about a grand to do it myself or around £2.5 k to have it done again double a narrow boat think that covers it apart from life choice and yes I would not swap this life to go back in a house not through finance but just because it’s better I have just sold one house and have another two on the market so for me I have plenty of options but this is as good as it gets, finally I would say depending on its age a £145k for a narrow boat is top dollar the one my daughter took up country is on for around 110 and is an absolutely stunning boat and has the best of everything on it I could send you a link for him if he’s interested don’t know if he’s already committed to the 145 one anything else just ask away mate hope that’s a little help

It’s gone up immensely over the last 15/ 20 years in price range  , as have the amount of boats .. you can’t moor a “pleasure cruiser” like I used to … you have to live on it to justify the prices of mooring and maintenance . What does the 4 year safety check cost now ?

I was paying £1500 a year for a single mooring in Bath marina around 2003 ish and a boat safety certificate was around £450 every 4 years . Permit to be on the water  I think was around £240 a year

Tell me about it I’ve had a boat for the last 20 years and like everything else the cost is going through the roof that’s why there’s an epidemic of unlicensed boats lived on by the great unwashed thing is if you have nothing but the boat and keep on moving it’s hard to enforce anything on you they also use travellers rights and swap ownership of boats if ever a court case is won to remove the boat
