The prices for compound bows are so much cheaper over there and the US than in the UK and with the idiot who runs the US, any good price structure once had with America has gone so high prices is what we have to deal with. philpot 5,103
I have just been pricing up Hoyt bows, £1750........... PSE, £1500........... Mathews, £1500 etc etc. I know there are some entry level bows from people like Hoyt and PSE but all their competition bows are roughly around that price then add sights and a set of good quality arrows and that is another £500 assuming you are going to be competition shooting which I am not so will not be spending that sort of money but I will still get plenty of pleasure from what I eventually buy.. Some of the Bear prices are quite good but rarely available in the uk, more is the pity. 1 Quote Link to post

My mathews when I got it was just over $1000 bare bow, really nice though, bear do decent stuff and theres loads of kits available in a dedicated archery store, also e-bay have fully loaded bows often when people are upgrading. philpot 5,103
I do want to buy from a store as I have not owned a compound bow before so want to have the bow set up for me before I take it home and I know that is going to cost me more in the short term but I will gain the experiennce of being involved with the setting up and what to do in the future. Being an old fart, it is likely that I may well have to reduce the draw weight due to age or my arm condition or whatever so the intermediate and beginner bows have far more adjustment in power than the high end bows although Hoyt, Elite, PSE and Bowtech do have their entry level / intermediate bows which in most cases do have far greater power adjustment and may be the route I take rather than going Topoint / Sanlida chinese made route even though these companies have raised their game to produce some first rate bows now from all the research I have done. It is most likely that my wife will want a compound as well so being able to adjust draw length and draw weight on both will be a huge help as we get older. Phil Quote Link to post
