I'm going to have to rebuild my aviaries this time round and would like to put it on a small wall to keep the timbers up away from damp and just wondering how I should go about it.  If I was to do a 3 or 4 course wall should I put the damp course 2 course high in case of water splashing up?

 Thanks in advance

Your damp is really only to protect the wood from damp coming upwards so a course down under the wood should be fine and your right bricks do look better than concrete blocks,lol..Get some pics up of the build as well please gnipper..

Pulled the old one down yesterday and just been and got the tanalised 2x2 so I'll make a start when I get chance if it ever stops raining. The previous one was just a prebuilt aviary panel sat on a course of block pavers and seemed to do the job for long enough. I want a better roof on it this time too.

It was 6ft long but I'm going to make it 7ft odd so it's wedged solid between my little pigeon shed and brick bird shed so doesn't need ends doing on it and rather than put a back on it I think I'm gonna build straight off the neighbours concrete panel fence and paint them so it's brighter.

In the past it's had everything from ferrets to goldies in it and probably will in the future too .

The old aviary had a t&g back on it which went knackered over the years from leaves etc falling behind it so if I build straight off the panels with the roof overlapping it a bit it should stay sound.

There's another one the same size to the left of the wooden shed which I will do the same with after the breeding season so I'm tempted to make this one into 2 smaller flights and put a pair of natives in each but have it so I can take the divider out for the winter.

Seen a chaps on youtube old guy lovely set up. He'd done his outdoor flight out of concrete kick boards and posts. Two kick boards high with the stone looking front. Then decent timber sides that just slid in. Then decent roof. Doors in each flight a walk through. Old chap bred hawfinches. You might have watched the video. Oliver from OC aviaries shared it.
