hi all

just been told today by an older gentleman who used to hunt in years gone by that the best way to remember when not to shoot rabbit is all the months in the year with an 'R' in it has anyone heard of this before ,is there any truth or sense to it or is he having a laugh at my expense :icon_redface:

hi

yes i think he was trying to imply most rabbits are milky then and i would be spoiling my future sport by shooting them

He is pulling your plonker or has been on too many of the happy pills.

 

Rabbits breed from Feb to October (on the whole) November December January all have R's in. They are all seriously "milky" in May, June, July and August when apparently he says it's ok to shoot them! Give him another bottle and go shoot some rabbits..if you run out find some more land!

the reason behind this closed season was to protect rabbit stocks i was also given this advice when i first

started shooting rabbits 40+years ago by a game keeper of 40years standing if you do the sums this takes

us back to 1928 :hmm: at a time of the depression when fresh food was live food and rabbits were

the staple diet of the people and needed to be protected :boxing:

fridges and chicken ding had not arrived on the seen and we still had all 4 seasons at this time

rabbits were less inclined during the winter period

however this as we all know is no longer the case and the bunnies are going at it like rabbits throught the

year
