Been a bit quiet

Recommended Posts

Not many posts in line with a lot of the forum.  Am sure there are plenty still doing bits…was out tonight on a small flightpond, it’s been freezing here a week and the pond has frozen over apart from a patch maybe 30 yards where there are willow trees overhanging.
Have fed it this week, barley, wheat and a bit of everything ?…looked in tonight with the spaniel who has been laid up with a nasty leg injury and a couple of Mallard and maybe 6 teal jumped off.

A couple of teal had  fly by early on before wave after wave teal came to the open water .  I took a right and left at the first group, 2 nice cock birds before i retreated and sat and had a beer. We feed and shoot on Saturday and hope for great things…

Aye up Bell. Thinking about you pal. We had 5 flight ponds on the shoot and another about a mile away. Whilst the 5 did not produce  the other had a steady flight of both duck and geese. However, it was a dodgy night when, having dropped one which landed on the ice, the choice was mine whether or not to send the dog. I.ended up with a long length of blue rope with a brick which broke a way through the ice. We had the retrieve but not sure I would try that again. Jok.

That’s always the dilemma Jok, this pond is shallow so no chance of a drowned dog and probably why the teal like it……but yes, care does need to be taken ?

Out again tonight, wasn’t expecting much but the temperature has dropped again.  Walked the marshy field next to the pond and flushed a woodcock and 4 pheasants. Clipped a cock bird but he flew on strongly.
Waited with the dog to see what came in….didn’t think it was going to happen but they arrived late, firstly mallard and then a good flight of teal. Betsy picked them all and we packed up….
