Just been doing a bit of research as was interested. From what I've read they did, as you say, get very popular for a moment, but apparently weren't good enough to stand the test of time. Also they apparently have hip issues, which I can't imagine being wanted in a running dog. However, they supposedly did the business for a time.

Forgot to mention that they apparently retain information better than most breeds so we're bred into the x for their brains

Imagine a collie lurcher without the cough ,nervy ,stalking traits .

Also if the shepherds got good hips which been tested then the offspring will be fine .

Ok, so with current kc standards appearing to ruin the breed or at least allow the bad points to be continually bred, surely now they aren't going to be getting crossed from all too often?

With gsd being as name suggest a "shepherd" dog, wouldn't they still carry the stalking trait?

I’ve never seen one stalk an there’s different methods of rounding sheep up

An the people who bred shepherd or Alsatian lurchers back then didn’t keep or was interested in kennel club dogs .

True, it like every thing with lurchers, I only go on my own dog, what he as done in his 10 years I've had him. He was great lamping dog, so was his litter sister, they were very full on dogs when young, he could be bit reckless when after his quarry, he had few bangs/bumps, but could handle  it, very tough type lurcher. He came from good stock, his dam had  German working lines E/E fit healthy animal, his sire was  Razzmatzz the mid distance greyhound, bred by Max of here, 2 very good dogs. Regards HD poor hips, I was told by 2 vets that if did get HD, it wouldn't be as bad as pure gsd as he his a hybrid. This x ain't going to be for everybody I know that. 1st he don't look like a lurcher lol, 2nd there big heavy type dog he made 28in 88lb, sister made 26in 70lb. But they are very agile, good pace, good feet /coat, and powerful animal. I only going on him, . I've had  collie xs bullxs, lurcherx lurcher dogs, going on them, he was the best had plenty of long nights with plenty of runs, fill me freezer and knock over few Charlie's as well. He 10 now, me and him are both old buggers, I am glad that finished  with him, he ticked all the boxes. There plenty of good lurchers out there deff, but if you ever fancied a change from your collie type, something bit more guts, and strength, plenty of brain, give a gsd x a try if one ever came up.  I will always have lurcher round me, even just as pet, they all make great pets.. Thanks for that was an interesting read, coming from someone that has this type, 1st hand account always better than the information the Internet can give me. Tbh is a little big for me, saying that, her in my picture is 26" and nearly 60lbs. Have seen a few pictures of this type and as you say, they don't look like lurchers and all seem to carry the look of the gsd.

He sounds like hell of a dog and like you've had some good fun with him!

Thanks again ?
