Squirrel_Basher 17,102
Lamped a large area last nightwith josh off the site , as the farmer has had a few chicken killed .Didnt see a lot until we'd done a complete circuit and back to the farm .We generally see one here so wasnt surprised.Stalked in to a shootable range and i lead down on the [wet ]grass for a prone shot.Shot it and paced it at 84 . It was a vixen ,sat on the top of a ditch bank that leads up to the farm house . Quote Link to post
SNAP SHOT 194
Good stuff FD. but why the pacing i would highly recommend a rangefinder, this would let you take targets at greater distances with accurate bullet drop its nice to get the long shot, lamp shy charlies too........ Squirrel_Basher 17,102
Personally mate ,I get my pleasure and satisfaction from being able to get close to quarry ,be it deer or fox .I pride myself in this fact too .Not to say the long shot isnt skillful but at this moment in time its not for me .A shot over 100 yds is rare for me but i still kill my fair share .Shooting a zoomed in critter would not do much for me mate . garyw 0
FOXDROPPER. NICE GOING THERE. LOOKS LIKE LAST SEASONS CUB TO ME.WAS IT IN CUB? AGREE WITH YOU ON THE RANGE THING,WE ALL LIKE THE LOOOOOONG RANGE SHOTS ITS GOOD FOR CONFIDENCE BUT THE BUZZ FOR ME AND A LOT OF EXPERIENCED FOX SHOOTERS I KNOW IS GETTING UP CLOSE TO CHARLIE.BY STALKING USING THE LAND/BUILDINGS/FARM MACHINERY TO YOUR ADVANTAGE.ID RATHER SPEND TIME OUTWITTING 1 FOX BY THESE METHODS THAN SHOOTING 3 AT RANGE WITHOUT DOING A BIT OF WORK. SOME FOLK WILL CALL ME A KNOB -ED FOR THIS BUT I DEFY ANYONE TO ADMIT THEY DONT GET A BIGGER BUZZ STALKING A FOX HAVING TO WORK AT IT THAN PISS EASY SHOTS ON CUBS THAT DONT KNOW F/A. WHAT RIFLE IS THAT AND WHAT AMMO DOES IT SPIT OUT? AGAIN WELL DONE. garyw Quote Link to post
Guest JohnGalway
Guy on Ebay, Scopestop (shop) does a very good deal on Leica rangefinders. Good shooting! Quote Link to post
sheepworrier 1
Well fellow shooting chaps, I have to agree with gary and a few others on this one! I like to get as close as possible using cunning and guile just to try and show charlie he's not the only sly one around, my opinion only still good going lads Quote Link to post
Irish Lurcher 1,013
Well done, I also prefer to get them right in close, its much most of a trill to have the little fecker come right under your nose, takes a lot of skill and field craft to get them in close Quote Link to post
Tikka T3 0
hello mr galloway the call master is working a treat .a few more to this years tally.those leica are good finders aint they a few different views on the range people like to take there foxes i stand by mine .it seems to me that a few on this site should be using a shotgun if they like that much of a challenge . i have no problems bringing them in close i do it for sport and control but i use my rifle to its and my capabilities .like you mr galloway i do take quite a few of mine at range . t3 Quote Link to post
Deker 3,491
Tikka T3 Steady on.. no need for talk of shotguns, frankly I'm with a couple of others here and like to get them as close as sensible. Long range..well, been there done that got the t shirt and, and yes, still very happy to take the long shots as appropriate. The But is.... I have also learnt to take every sensible advantage I can in the field..and if this means, bipods, calls, close range, whatever, I'm all for it! I don't need to keep challenging myself..I know what I can do! End of the day I don't see this as a competition, I'm happy with what I do, if you want to take the long ones all the time then great, others have their favoured methods! Cheers Deker Edited January 25, 2008 by Deker Quote Link to post
David 9
Nice one foxdrooper cant beat it when things go to plan bet the farmer was a happy man Edited January 25, 2008 by David Quote Link to post
Tikka T3 0
deka yes my friend you are right every one has there opinions and i have mine .i respect every bodies opinion for sure ,who mentioned anything about a competition ? i just gave my view .isnt that what this site is about . as for using calls and new things im all for that too . but lets be fair and honest here we are talking center fire rifles here and i for one dont go looking for a 75 yards or closer fox to shoot .i have a gun that like most on here is capable of taking them much further than 100yds and i take more from a shot taken successfully at range than one at mentioned ranges as long as it is killed cleanly thats all that matters right as said its my opinion and the way i like shoot .i shoot over very large fields and getting close can some times be difficult . any way deka thats my opinion for what its worth . and by the way i was addressing mr galloway ,but i do respect your opinion take care t3 Quote Link to post
