Hey up lads, look i was round my daughters today, and shes thinking of having the chimney breast removed, if its within reach financially , its council property so she would seek permission first, any ideas on the cost, and would she have to have the stack removed as well

Crikey son, that opens a right can of worms. I’m guessing 2 storey so upper bedroom and downstairs living room involved. Air bricks are a big issue. Scaffolding is mandatory these day and skip hire toget rid of detritus. All in all a very big job. I know. I had my top stack removed, believe it or not on Xmas eve. Scaffolding was a grand and my man had a nice pony in his pocket. You never seem to get rid of the smell of soot in the lounge but I guess this will go. Good luck to your lass. Jok.

Only down stairs or up also? Can remove fire place downstairs but requires steels and structural calls . Also the last one I done we took the down and upstairs bit out and propped up the rest left in the loft with steels and needed a party wall act with Nieghbour’s I recall as your chopping about on a part of the chimney structure that’s attached to the Nieghbour’s also. Not a cheap or clean job to do mate
