First pheasant of the season. A cock bird hunted and shot with a flintlock. Out before light but only found hens.

Back out late afternoon  and I got on this cockbird.

The rain was bad and keeping a flintlock  functional in such conditions is a challenge!

Good going mate ,, do you not shoot hens at all or is it that you don’t start the season off with a hen ? I have this weird superstition where I don’t like starting the  season of with hen  pheasant /duck as I think it gives me bad luck

Washed and diced pheasant breast fried in olive oil and garlic salt and black pepper. While still tender a tin of bacon and lentil soup  added.

Course chopped boiled potatoes added and salt to taste.

Only one small problem.....got to get another bird ?
