BenBhoy 4,706
Gents (and Bernard) , I'm after some advice on comb height (shotgun). I'm probably what you'd describe as smaller than average (still fathered two kids though boom!!) 5'5" 9st and very narrow skinny face. I'm looking to buy new guns in next 12 months, semi & game. I need to use shims to raise comb. Not an issue with semi. Currently use 686 with a slip on comb raiser. But rather get something more permanent this time. Wondering if a monte carlo will lift it up sufficiently? Or does anyone have any experience of having an existing stock chopped & raised stuck on and re-finished? Plan was (and still will) get a fitting but obviously that's on hold at minute. Quote Link to post

Sausagedog 7,381
So are your eyes close together as well? I'm not much help mate sorry I always end up with to high a comb if I get it wrong purchase wise. I usually have to remove timber! I have bent one sxs stock with hot oil but it takes ages unless you have a proper set up. I don't know of anyone that does it but I bet some one does somewhere. Quote Link to post

philpot 5,069
I am 100% in agreement with Dave, an adjustable stock is the way to go Ben. All my clay guns and my wife's guns have adjustable stocks, she needs it and I simply like the fact that I can make tiny alterations IF needed. Once it is set, you will not really need to keep changing it's position but it is there if needed. Doveridge do a lot of comb risers, my wifes friend had her Beretta done, superb job, about £250 if I remember correctly. With a much lighter frame that you have Ben, I think it would be a massive benefit. One other thing, if you find recoil a bit high, look at Recoil Systems green pads which are fantastic. I have fitted them to a couple of guns for people including one gun belonging to my wife, they really do work very well and far far better than Kick-eeze pads, just a thought mate. Certain guns can be a bit bumpy, Winchester 101 for example can be savage and one old gentleman I met was getting punished when he returned to clay shooting so I taped on a spare one I had and what a difference it made for him. https://www.recoilsystems.com/ Phil 1 Quote Link to post
