Had a go at the greys

Recommended Posts

I’ve used a few, and different brands have given me differing results. I bought these s&b’s a good while ago for two reasons. One because I intended to use them to shoot rats on an infested embankment, and two, because they were dirt cheap. As you say, their accuracy can leave something to be desired at any distance, I found rws shorts probably the most accurate I’ve used. I shot these squirrels in a long goyle which is flanked by trees on either side. The range across the goyle is around fifteen to twenty yards maximum. At this range the shorts are accurate and the little 28 grain bullets are really quiet, but hard hitting all the same. I only shoot squirrels on the ground or with the banking behind them with these I might add. I always take some standard subs and often hv’s as well, but for what I had in mind, the little .22 shorts did the job just fine. I have some eley high velocity shorts to try, it will be interesting to put a few of those over the chrono and on a target as well to see how they perform. I could post my results on here if anyone is interested?

Yes please post the results DB as these things are always interesting to have tucked in the back of my mind for when I need them.  I will see about getting some after you have done your tests as there are one or two places they wouls be very handy or at least it is a case of haveing more than one string to your bow.

Couldn’t agree more Phil. Believe it or not, I also use cb caps, 16 grain bullets @ 28 ft lbs. Only accurate at ten to fifteen yards, and can only be loaded singularly, but can be useful at times if an air rifle isn’t to hand.

Years ago I got some high velocity Winchester superx hollow point shorts and they were mustard on rabbits. Think I shot them to 70 yds easily.

I take it these are no longer available SD.

I doubt it mate. They were from the 70's IIRC about 25 years ago!

My dealer has some S&B ( Duncan's) but my marlin auto won't handle them. I would buy some if I could single load them but it's to much of a fiddle, I tried a few I scrounged recently.

I like S&B ammo. Wish we saw more of it personally.

That's brilliant. I only ever had one rifle feed any length 22 from a clip, a Winchester 69a.

That’s interesting, aren’t the magazine’s of both the anschutz 64 and Winchester 69a almost an identical design?
