Arry 25,175
When up the garden this thing was hovering in front of me. Never seen one before, we have load of the ordinary Hoverflies around. Surprising what is in the garden. Turns out it's one of these. Hoverfly - Volucella pellucens There are over 200 species of hover fly recorded in the UK. In this species the female enters the paper nests of wasps and lays her eggs. The hosts do not appear to register her presence as she makes her way into the nest entrance, the impersonation of wasps is more than just appearance. No mate there was supposed to be a picture with the copied bit on Hoverfly - Volucella pellucens it took a while to find. That what it is, it hovered on the Honesty flowers and used that long proboscis to feed. Cheers Arry
