Sausagedog 7,381
But possibly her feller! I hobbled my way around to where my dumb dog chased what I thought was slinky last week. It's about a 2mile walk. In the spot and in the shadow of a tree line from the rising sun I looked towards the gate hole in the hedge where I was last week when my dog gave chase towards where I was today. About 400yds away. Amazingly while I was looking a large fox came through the same gate hole! It was coming down the sunny side of the hedge towards me! Only thing is I need to get to the end of the hedge 40 yds away! I had my face covered and I was in the shade. The fox was walking into the sun. Whenever it stuck it's nose in the hedge I moved and got to the end of the hedge. My heart was pounding! To get a fox trotting towards me is a rare thing and I had a right job calming myself down! Eventually it got down to 43 paces and I let fly. But it's not slinky. 12 1 Quote Link to post
Meece 1,958
Why are you wearing a silly Dennis the menace cartoon mask ? Hang on a mo is that what you really look like.? .. anyway that was good fieldwork. Use the light, use the wind and terrain. Sometimes they do trot straight towards you. I was out one summer's evening with the dog and one came walking towards me. It was very difficult to keep the dog still and me covered whilst semi out in the open. but matey came close enough though. Two other occasions, one where the Charlie was running towards the hilux and the shooter fired but missed.! (Unforgivable error ) Charlie changed up a cog or two and came on even faster.!, and again after two more misses behind and Charlie nearing the sound barrier he went straight under the hilux and through the hedge never to be seen again. (Absolute disgrace. A court Marshall offence.) The shooter who was a good shot threw his gun over the side onto the ground in disgust which didn't help matters. Re.zero required.! The other occasion was when a bloke was shooting with a rifle with some sort of contraption on the scope with big wheels and stuff. Charlie kept coming in and in and the bloke kept saying " I can't seè it.!" Eventually Charlie was about twenty yards away from the hilux, standing looking at us and thinking, $What the he'll are they doing" ? Then it had, had enough and ran away. I could take it no longer and just picked up my rifle and dropped the blighter, just as it got to the hedge and turned for that faìtfull last look back. Matey was still messing about with a chart and dialling it in. Both incidences were rare and not the normal bang flop job. Edited March 20, 2020 by Meece 3 Quote Link to post

Yep, a bloke I know lost loads of shots playing with his sniper scope instead of just shooting! 1 Quote Link to post
Meece 1,958
Some of this sort of problem is akin to the shallowness of Facebook or instagram posting the selfie issue. Instead of the result of shooting a gun accurately, it is about what it looks like. Two of the son in laws shoot and both of them have bought second hand guns in 17 hmr & 223 rem. That is 4 guns that are as brand new condition and haven't had more than a box or two of rounds through them in several years since new. In fact one of the 223s had only fired 3 rounds through it since new (provable) . The guns and equipment are like fashion accessories that the shooter suddenly wants to go stamp collecting or train spotting ect when they aint been used in several years and the cert renewal comes up. This bloke with the sniper scope changes guns every few weeks. His ticket is in and out like a yo,yo. He and The firearms dept are on first name terms. I've had my 223 since about 93 and it is well sorted. I am a quick shot and I can't imagine getting rid of it for any reason. See it, track it. Shoot it. One shot one kill 2 Quote Link to post
