10 questions 10 to Sebastián Cruz.  Galguero and flamenco singer.

1: Why are you a galguero?

I'm Galguero because I think it was when I was born.  My father was a good galguero and my grandfather Sebastian also had greyhounds.  He told me that he had one called "Careto" that brought the hares that killed him at the door of the house and thus also helped in family support.  The truth is that I am passionate about this world.

2: What do greyhounds bring to your life?

Greyhounds practically since I was born, bring me much satisfaction.  They are the ones that help me to disconnect from my routine.  I need to go out daily with them, no matter the day or month of the year.  My dogs go out to the field every day because they need it and I need it too.  The day I can't go out with them there is no one who can stand me jijjijiji.  It is also a lot of sacrifice, since since my father passed away I am alone in breeding and preparation.  My mother helps me a lot.  And my friend Juan Antonio also helps me when he can, in preparation and he is the one who comes with me to see them run and give their opinion about the race.

3: What would you change in this hobby?

From this hobby then removing would not take anything away.  If I would remedy or seek a remedy to some problems.  In my experience because of my profession as a singer, I have presented myself to several important Contests such as the Cante de las Minas de la Unión, or the National de Cordoba in which I was a finalist several times.  I know that when there is a jury or judges ahead, you have to abstain from the consequences and respect the verdict of these judges, sometimes the audience cheered loudly because they liked how they sang but then the jury verdict was different and had to be accepted and lost  With dignity, respecting your classmates and if you don't like it that way, because not competing or not competing is enough.  I say this because I don't like gossip controversies or anything.  There are some gentlemen who are the judges and try to do their best work and that must be respected.  We cannot give a bad image to the world, fighting each other and disrespecting each other. We must respect and lead the competition as best as possible for the good of us.  That would take it away.  The controversy in competitions and the lack of respect of some people.  Otherwise all great.

4: What would you say to people who are against hunting with greyhounds?

I believe that there is a lack of information from these people.  Unfortunately there are still abandonments and mistreatment of dogs and other animals.  As a galguero I die for this world and for this hobby and, like me, 99% of all Galguer in Spain are incapable of harming an animal we love very much, I can even tell you that my greyhounds are part of  My family are friends of my children and my faithful companions with whom I spend many hours.  Everyone who loves this animal as we do is unable to harm them.  I can assure you one thing. For greyhounds, a fundamental basis for their preparation to be champions is based on the love we give them.  I think we should talk with these people and really show them the reality that is a very different one, than the one that the media and social networks make them understand.  90% of greyhounds who are mistreated with cuts in the neck or abandoned in the streets have been robbed.  It is very sad that we have to suffer the accusation of an animal abuser, in addition to suffering the great sadness of seeing how again and again the greyhounds rob us that later the Thieves themselves are the ones who truly mistreat and abandon them.

5: Why now that there are less hares in the preserves more greyhounds are raised?

That's a good question.  There is a mistake.  We confuse more with better.  That is, we believe that raising more greyhounds will have more options to get a good dog.The Greyhound is a dog that needs a lot of care and if we talk about competing or tell you.  You need a diet worthy of a good athlete, which is what it is after all.  A good feed, vitamin intake, low fat meats.  The truth is a lot of sacrifice and an important economic expense.  It is also essential to dedicate your time to each one.  Treat them after running and have them well taken care of.  I personally believe that it would be impossible for me to breed 15 greyhounds with the same care, the same preparation and feeding with which he raised 3 or 4 that would be a reasonable number.  Now with the shortage of hares with more reason.  If it is hard for me to raise 3 or 4 to see them run, imagine the one who raised 10 for very good preserves.  I think that the dog should be done little by little with the hares and the preparation, for me it would be impossible to breed more than 4 dogs and see them correctly as you have to see a dog.  It is my humble opinion.

6: Your oldest running greyhound was ...

Well, with more age, my dog "Muleta" may have been a chocolate greyhound than with 7 years.  Without being trained throughout the year, since I only had her as a mother, here in the preserve of the town I gave her a hare from time to time and ran more than all the new ones with which I hooked them.  That bitch is very native.  He is still at home with 9 years.  They are bitches that can hold you more than strength.  A lot of greed and dies after the hare.

7: The greatest virtue in a greyhound is ...

The greatest virtue of a Greyhound is greed.  That I always want to go for a hare and that it is resistant, that is why I always rely on the breeding of the Spanish Greyhound, they are very hard dogs and in particular they are dogs as I say “they like to run the hares” a Spanish Greyhound with  greed and in a field where the hares run (Madrigal, Nava del Rey, Medina del Campo .....) I think there is no dog that can overcome it.  Also in my case with "Bruno de Salomé" with whom I was champion of the Spanish Greyhound in 2015-2016, I could see how hard they are from hueyos, because he ran all the phases without putting bandages on him and he never hurt himself.  It only sells it in the semifinals, in Medina del Campo when cut with a stone.  So I would highlight greed and make it very hard with the hares.

8: The scourge of this hobby is ...

The scourge of course the Thieves.  The miserable Thieves who, with their frequent robberies, bitter the life of a man who has been dreaming of watching his dog run all year long so that in one morning they take away all his illusions seeing that some Thieves have left his pen empty.  There are people that I knew were lifelong fans, that because of these robberies they had to leave the hobby and I have really seen them in the greatest sadness to men with 60 and 65 years crying telling me what happened.  It is a shame indeed.  This kind of animal theft would have to be more penalized.  As I said before the robbery is abuse and neglect.  We true fans suffer doubly, first because of the robberies and then because of that same dog that has been stolen. You find him later dead on the road after the abandonment of the same thief.  No doubt the thefts.

9: Tell me the 5 best gauges you've seen running, it doesn't have to be championships.

Well, "La Cubana" by Emilio Cabello, "Morix" by Pablo Hermoso de Mendoza, "Poderosa", a dog I had called "Arandela", "Tara" and "Lagartija de la Maluca"

 10: And your 5 males?

"Turbo de Badajoz", "Clamores", my dog "Bruno de Salomé", "Faruk de la Tata" and "El Czar".

With what word would you define:

 -Morisca: Anthological

 -Clamores: Step

  -Lizard: Machine

 - Relente: Hardness

 -Yuma: Caste

Think there have been a few named after the style. Their traditional folk music and their traditional sports have closes links.
