When I first got into lurchers there were very few precious USEFUL :wallbash: books on training and working lurchers.

Even now many years later the situation hasn't really changed  . There are some excellent books of hunting stories.

HOWEVER, if you are new to the lurcher scene then unless you are lucky enough to have someone experienced to guide you there is feck all to point you in the right direction. ESPECIALLY if things start going wrong.

I think there is a huge need for a book dedicated to rearing, training and maintaining a working lurcher. With ancedotal stories in it?

DON"T worry I'm not thinking of writing one :icon_eek: .

BUT if someone with the knowledge and experience did write one, would you buy it? I know for sure I would.

If this thread gets enough positive support hopefully we will see a book we can ALL benefit from :toast: .

Thank you.

I've used Purdeys Progress DVD and read the Frank Sheardown book (can't remember the name) but I would be interested in another book, but, to be honest mabye one that tackled some of the issues that put people off Marmite dogs (love/hate) like BullXs and Salukis and possibbly collie X's?

Depends who writes it surely?......

and , for me to buy it, it would have to be different from whats already on offer. :boogie:

happy hunting JD

JD, obviously who writes it would be pretty important.

Totally agree that it would have to be different to what's on offer. But if you take a look through what is out there, I think there is still a gulf in what could be put down. Especially in terms of correcting things when they go wrong.

You only have to look at how often there are posts on these forums as to what can be done to resolve things dogs are doing wrong. Also I think there would be a big need for guidance on dealing with injuries and complaints of working dogs.

I guess if people want to see certain things in a book then they should say so............

all the best for 2008

i wouldn't buy it , theres no point. theres enough info on the net. also on the net if you have a problem there may well be difrent solutions to the same problem. this would give you a choise .

with a book there is probly only going to be one solution to a problem , and that will be from the orther(spelling) the book writer.

and as already said D.slaights dvd's , are very good as a basic guied to dog training.

there are loads of books out there with dog training in mind, it would just end up as another boring lurcher manual.

lets here about stories, days ,nights out, good, bad , sad, funny whatever. also i think a history would be good , there were some negative things said on a post yesterday , but so long as the facts were acurate . lets get them down now whilst people still remember.

i like reading books about training/entering lurchers and terriers but they often get done over time and time again... the web often has a lot of different opinions/solutions but i find that when a lad/lady asks a genuine question there is always a few daft c**ts that like to start a bitching match... if a lad/lady has a question about breeding then he only has to mention the age of the bitch and your left reading 4 pages on why you breeding so young ££££££££££££££ etc etc, sometimes its enough to make a man  :) ...at least with a book you can read it then try and test it... and you dont have folk jumping down your throat.. as if the average joe doesnt already have enough things in his working day to give him a scunder ... :) i dont think anyone has jumped down my throat yet but the day isnt over

I would. A book you can reference back to time and time again for years to come.

Yes, you can look things up on the PC, but you have to type it in....eg lurcher barking when chasing a rabbit you then have to troll through pages of someones pet dog chasing rabbits, dogs barking at rabbits, anything to do with lurchers, anything to do with rabbits, and millions of books for sale. Does my heed in
