Personally I never put a can on a CF. Just didna like the idea but that's just me.

Very good pal of mine had a 527 in .223, the black plastic version, one of the cheapest guns on the market at the time but its accuracy became legendary!

Same here. A friend of mine had one in 222 and that was awesome. He developed a 40 GRN load doing 3900 and nothing was safe.
