a question on deer

Recommended Posts

All deer are different; a few friends and me were only just discussing this earlier today,

You have to take into account different circumstances, and judge each deer different,

You get old ones, young ones, educated ones, and they are all going to run slightly different,

But a good deer dog has to be fast, simple as that, if it isn’t fast enough,

It isn't going to catch, no matter how keen it is. A good percentage of greyhound is essential if your main target was deer.

Another essential is a dog that will jump well and at speed,

Yes some dogs will catch them bouncing off fences and against hedges etc,

But that doesn't happen to often, I wish it did.

But when you start running deer in the daytime on a regular basis,

You soon realise how fast they are and the things they jump. Just my opinion.

Has anybody ever witnessed a small dog, say under 24' to the shoulder take one of the bigger deer species

Fallow, sika or a red on a regular basis: single handed??

Picture is of my current dog, Not the best in the world but fast and good enough for me.
