what about squirrel jobs ....do you charge per squirrel?

 

 

squirrels , rats , mouse, mole . in a NORMAL domestic property i charge £90. i base that on me making 3 visits, i may need to make 4-5 visits , but that dont happen often . i usualy manage to deal with the pests in 3 visits.

 

also with squirrels same as moles i aint only going to lay 1 trap . for moles i may lay a dozen or more, i like to fecking suround them

 

squirrels a may put 3-4 traps maybe even 5.

 

to me, more traps = les visits = more money

True, lads. Pest Controllers must be the most under rated, under paid Skilled Professional Tradesmen in the book. " Landscape Gardener " probably commands a better price, for shovelling wheel barrows full of soil from one place to another

The best advice I can give is ....Dont be afraid to make a living and charge accordingly with your head not your heart

Sorry, Rats. Genuinely the first thing that popped into my head on the fly! Anyway;Ye just said yeself ye should be making " Bundles of money " in March!

 

Just to echoe and add to Matt's comment; Ye basic kit - and I Don't mean a VAN! Just ye Sprayer, Duster, some Boxes, Baits and bits and pieces will cost ye Thousands of Pounds to put together. More jobs ye hope to be able to cover = More £K's initial outlay. And that's Long before ye phone ever rings .....

 

We're talking a Serious Commitment here. Owning an air rifle and a few Fenn Traps won't cut it.

Just echoing Ditch, here. It's okay to think £90 a job, wow, money for old rope. I'll tell you all something now, times will be hard especially in the first year or two, and don't think that the average farmer will be paying you that amount per hour. And if you've got a wife, children, mortgage etc., think long and hard, your wife and kids won't thank you when they're living on the poverty line, and you've lost your house, "but it's ok cause Dad loves his job".

good luck to anyone starting up , i,m getting out of it after 20 years of working for farmers that think you can work for nothing and then wait 2 months to get paid, don,t get me wrong , theres plenty of farmers out there that just about chase you down the field with thier cheque book , but not many , never bothered to go down the domestic,s route , seems thats where the money is, i prefer my own company and don,t like looking round peoples house , the open countryside is where i like to be

all my jobs that are labour intensive, i charge £15- 20 per hour, example ferreting, if its a farm/golf course then its £15 an hour+ i might need an extra pair of hands i usualy charge the customer an extra £50 per day for that.

 

so in total it would be £170 for 8 hours work, it would work out roughly the same for a back garden rabbit job under shed or summat like that. but you may get a little more ,again based on roughly £15 per hour.

 

the last back garden job i did i quated £75 and i was there about 3 hours

 

 

night time work is £20 an hour, tonight for example i am going out lamping as its windy, i will be out rougly 3 hours and the farmer already knows its going to cost him £60.

 

the last time i did any pigion proofing was a car park in the city , i did this as a sub contract from another pesty. i charged him £20 an hour . he suplied all the materials.

 

there is good £££££££££££££££ to be made pigion proffing thats why some companies specalize in just this work.

no need to feel sorry for me , i have made good money over the years , but am just ready for a change, for the last two years my heart has just not been in the job of trapping moles rats etc and going round the farm rodent contracts every month,and i always promised myself i would pack it in when i didn,t want to go to work in the morning , that time has come......one other small thing has swayed my decision... i got a full time rabbit catchers job on 17,000 acres of prime rabbit country , now i,m looking forward to getting to work in the morning , roll on 1st feb

Personally i would echo what CW says, i did not start the business to do the mundane job of looking at endless black boxes, unfortunatly i realised in the formative years i had to do it to survive, thankfully i no longer need to do it, but choose to do enough to cover the bills each month, after that it is moles, rabbits or squirrels everything else excluding my good friend mr wasp can bugger off.

Years ago i said i would no longer do what i did not want to or be governed by a watch, thankfully i can now honestly say i live by this.
