The Combined Clubs Charity Dog Show Sunday 3rd September 17 at Annaghmore Raceway, Annaghmore, Co Armagh

Deep in the heart of Orchard County, is the now famous Annaghmore Raceway, with its fine landscapes and magnificent Pony and Jib race track. It was a previlege to have this fine venue for the Combined Clubs annual Charity Dog Show Sunday 3rd September 17.

With the beauty of the countryside and good company, what more could we ask for, and a great family day out. The weather could have been better, with the odd shower of rain, but this did not dampen the spirits of the good Canine men and women of the Doggie world. As the cars and trailers arrived, it was evident the popularity of this annual Charity show, and by noon all parking places were full.

A nice surprise on the day was that the Combined Clubs had acquired a field adjacent to the race track where the show rings were, and decided to have simulated racing in there. This brought a great buzz of excitement, with Janet Dukes winning dog Maeve romping home to victory to take the prize for the Overall Simulated Race. What a proud owner, and Maeve was in top form and rearing to go.

Very soon it was raffle time, and it was my lucky day with winning 3 prizes in the raffle. John was none too pleased, as he is the one who wins all in our family. There was a picture and no sound for a while, but all was well later.

Time passes so quickly, and very soon it was show time.

Here are the Results of the Showing.

A Big Congratulations to all above winners, and Good luck to the qualifiers for the Five Nations Championships 2018.

And Finally, may I take this opportunity to thank the Judges at this Charity Show. Lurchers and Whippets, Sammy Shaw/Strong Dogs, John Barry/Terriers Paul Mc Alinden. Judging is not an easy Job, but you carried out your remit firm but fair. I took quite a lot of Photographs myself , and are on my Face Book time line at the moment.

A special word of thanks to the owner of Annaghmore Raceway Clive Richardson for allowing the club the use of this magnificent venue for this event. If it were not for you Clive this event would not be happening. For that we are truly grateful.

And Finally, Finally, many thanks to Tom Barry, Santas little helper Ethan Barry, and the Combined Clubs team for another great Dog Show. A lot of hard work went into organising this event, and Tom it was a credit to you and your organisational skills. You pulled out all the stops, and made the whole event a roaring success.

As Sundays show was for charity and in aid of Alzheimers, hopefully the shows donation will help in some small way, to give comfort to people during treatment, or help to care for them in the last days of their life here on this earth. Remember your were part of this, and a big thank you to everyone who contributed in any way or attended the show.

Alzheimers is a very needy cause, and can attack the system at any age. Nobody knows what tomorrow will bring, and it is nice to know that there are people waiting in the wings to help us out in our hour of need.

I am told from a very reliable source, that Mr Red is back from his summer holidays. Well its that time of year when I will have to gather my Canine friends together and go and visit him. Thanks again to all for your generosity, and God willing we will have another Charity Dog Show again in 2018.

Following the Combined Clubs’ Charity Show on the 3 September2017 a total of £530 was raised in aid of the Alzheimer’s Society, a very worthy cause.

We would like to thank everyone who attended and contributed to the raffle.

A big thank you to Mackin Transport, Albert Titterington, Jeff and Basil from Nutts, Omagh for their ongoing support of these charity events.

Thank you to all the clubs that helped on the day – DWTC, Tullylish WTC, Armagh WTC, Drumbo Whippet Club, Tyrone WTC, their help and support was much appreciated. Thanks also to the Armagh WTC who sponsored a perpetual shield for Dog of the Day. A generous gesture from this very old club.

Huge thanks to CRL Developments, who kindly give us the venue every year and to Jamie for his continued help and support.

A special thank you to Appleblossom for her tireless efforts to report the results and take photos, sometimes a thankless job, but much appreciated.

The £530 was delivered to Carole Murray, Dementia Support Worker on 19 September 2017. By 2021, 1 million people in the UK will be living with dementia and our donation will support them in finding new treatments and ultimately a cure.

Further information can be obtained from Carole.murray@alzheimers.org.uk or via the Alzheimer’s Society website www.alzheimers.org.uk/northernireland/

A Tribute to the late John Shaw who passed away  last Thursday 6th November 25

      I Am Free
Do not grieve for me now my  friends and family, I am free
I am following the path God Laid for me
I took his hand when I heard him call
I turned my back and left it all
I could not stay another day
To Love, to live, to hunt, to show my treasured Whippets, or play.
I found a peace at close of day.
Be not burdened with the times of sorrow
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow
Perhaps my time seemed all to brief
Do not lengthen it now with undue grief
Lift up your hearts my friends and share with me
      God wanted me now,
      He set me free.
John, we will love you forever and you will be sadly missed by your loving family and all your Country Sporting Fraternity and in the show ring.
May the Angels above give you the best seat in Heaven and may your gentle soul rest in peace.
      For Country Sports Fraternity
