DanielG 279
Hello Gents last week my 7.5 month old pup hurt his back leg close to his knee. I was walking along a footpath in the afternoon through a barley field when a muntjac got up and ran by us towards the wood. the pup gave chase,i tried to call him back but no chance. I followed where he went and saw him the other side of the wood. he couldnt walk . so i carried him home 26 kilos so was a feckin struggle. after a few minutes i sat him down for a rest and after, he could walk on 3 legs, but i still carried him half the time . i checked him over at home and couldnt feel anything broken RELIEF .I then headed for the vets.to make sure. He was sure he had only bruised his muscle, gave him a injection and some liquid pain killer to take home. its been 4 days now and he isnt limping anymore THANK GOD. Do you reckon he hit something in the woods or the munty butted him ?? There wasnt any blood just a swollen muscle near the back knee. Quote Link to post
DanielG 279
Could be anything but if there was no cuts then most likely banged it on something, lucky it wasn't a break. Atb Joe cheers joe ,makes sense ! its lucky hes a well built dog ,could of been much worse.he seemed like he had concussion at the time as well Quote Link to post

DanielG 279
The pup has more than likely suffered a tibia crest injury ( growth plate ). Quite common in running dog pups/saplings. The injury can occurs in varying degrees from a bruise to it been Totaly detatched. They can do it just twisting and turning or by bumping into something. A object or another dog. The harder the ground the more chance of it happening. The growth plates are not set till somewhere between 12 - 14 months old. Best keep that pup quiet for a month Ie lead walks' no free running and kept by itself in a kennel and run if poss so not able to jump around with other dogs. Goodluck. cheers that is a concern of mine but would he still be limping badly, if he had dameged his growth plate ? Quote Link to post
DanielG 279
cheers The pup has probably just bruised or maybe even strained/tweaked the tibia crest.Honestly' but most don't have the Pactience .I'd def only lead walk it with no free running whatsoever for a month minimum.Maybe two month and Kenneled solo.I'd also buy some Bone Radiol ( blue label )Dip a tooth brush in and work it around the knee joint up and down' circular motion for 5 mins morn.5 mins evening3 days on3 days offDo that for two weeks or so.If the pups just bruised or strained the TC and you keep letting it run it could turn into a full blownTibia Crest rupture and you don't want that. cheers, i will get bone radiol just in case thanks Dan Quote Link to post
