If it's been left with fuel in for some time the carbs could be clogged with gunk which sounds like fiddly stuff.

Air Filter, fuel filter, new fuel and change the spark plug....all of that is cheap to do.

They usually are pretty simple really I wouldn't claim to be a mechanic or anything but fixed a few in the garden from time to time old fella next door used to say if it isn't Briggs and Stratton engine it wasn't worth a wank give spark plug a good clean check filters and that there's no shite in petrol tank

B and s ain't what they used to be ... I'm told Honda engined mowers are the ones to have if your doing serious mowing work

My mum has a Honda...must be nearly 20 years old and still a first class mower.

I made the mistake of buying a flymo the other week....it's for sale if any one wants one

Put it on its side.remove the bottom part of the carb.the bowl.

Look up Into the bottom of carb you will see what looks like brass coloured screws with a centre hole in them.

Remove them with a small flat head screw driver and clean them out.

They are known as the jets.

Remove a single wire from a wire brush and use that to clean the jet holes.replace them and put the carb bowl back on.

That will be the no 1 culprit.

Blocked jets dido.

And check if it's got an inline fuel filter have a look at the condition on that.it will be clear or white.some of them can be unscrewed.
