Keeps 403
However i am rather fond of whiskey and Jamesons and Laphroig are two i'm rather fond of, however i'm with Blackbob now its Penderyn, Welsh Whiskey sadly its rather expensive but i dropped my wife a large hint for an Xmas present so lets hope... Cheers Aled Laphroaig was my favourite until I discovered Caol Ila, try it and see what you think Ive got an old bottle of cask strength Laphroaig in the cabinet, unopened that I bought a few years ago at the distillery - now is that willpower or what
ginga john 268
Right, lads ~ funny how no females have responded ~ just poured my fith Guinness of the night and glanced longingly at that bottle of Jamie on the way to the fridge! You Oz lads; Funny that. I was honestly meaning to ask you lot what spirits ye enjoyed over there! That thought may well have morphed into this Thread instead, actually? Don't remember! Now, 'Bundi' is obviously native. What about Ellie C? Or is that something Stabbist brought with him? Never heard of either of them in uk. I did try Jim Beam, during my Sampling though. That was one of the vilest of the lot and I quite frankly almost wanted to spit it out! Seriously! Not even sure what it is off hand. Bourbon? JD's a whiskey, after all. Maybe I just don't like Bourbon then? Can't stand that Southern Comfort either. Orangy tang. Another taste I don't like. C2C; Adding Anything to JD except More JD is a crime! Same goes for Pernod, in my book. Why take something as nice as Pernod and add water or blackcurrant?! Why do people do that?! Finny! YOU are my Man of the Match!!! Jamesons Twelve Year Old??? That's My f*ckin birthday treat to myself sorted out then! IF I can find a bottle in my local, one horse town? My birthday happens to be pay day too. So, if I haven't starved to death by then, I'll certainly try to find a bottle of that to break the barren time with And as for Mead?! Tell me about it! twenty five years back; They sold it out of the plastic barrel in our local offy. " Armadillo ". Christ, the wife and I kept them on their toes, keeping a fresh barel to hand lest we drained that one too quick! One time, we had some VIP friends down as Guests of Honour. I bought a barrel of Mead and some f*ckin Serious damage was done to that in a short time, I can tell ye! In fact, the 'el cheapo' Armadillo stuff is much nicer that the 'proper' Merrydown bottles. MD's thinner and tart by comparison Right, ok then; So we then have a lot of preferances for various Malts. But I also see Jamies GOLD mentioned? Would that be the 12 yo, or yet another version? And Bushmills. I'm yet to. But I've heard people emphatically swear that it Must be " Black Bush ". Again; Would that be the Bushmills 12, I wonder? Forgive me if I express such ignorance coupled with my enthusiasm. Only I've never considered myself a whiskey drinker. Probaby because I've normally accessed the stuff I listed - shop shelf standard stuff - and just found it 'did' when that's what was on offer. I frankly expected Jamesons to just be another such hot, harsh, typical whiskey. My fellow fans will know then just why I was so amazed and delighted! When I have some loose change and the time available, I must make a point of trying one or two more (especially Irish!) whiskeys in the pub. Just the one shot. See what they taste like. That's where I'll be sampling Bushmills Most enjoyable and enlightening Thread. Cheers, lads! Bushmills is good, Bushmills 12 year old is great, Bushmills black is like, to use an Australianism, an Angel pissing on yer tongue it really is that good

higgins 75
i'm definitely getting myself a Jamie for this Xmas, thanks Ditch for making my mind up,have a good Xmas everyone, Higgins.
Guest Ditch_Shitter
Bushmills ??? Yuk! Something turned up for me and I headed out for a bottle of Jamesons. But the offer had ended, or they'd sold out. Either way, Bushmills Original (in a 400th aniversary box) was available. 20 E's, reduced from 30! Well, I'm out to discover the tastes, so what the hell; Bushmills it was! Valued at the same price as JD, but with a tenner knocked off; Who was I to argue?! In fact, no sooner had I got back through the door and fed the Dogs than I poured myself a half ration - eager to rekindle the Jamesons experience, with some variation. Hells teeth! It's just like any of the Lesser, off the optic, Scotches I've ever tasted! Well, that's learned me something: " Irish Whiskey " is NOT, by definition, a smooth and wonderful experience, compared to bog standard Scotch. Jamesons Is. The rest ....? So that's it for me, for now. I'll get on with this bottle I have. But, comes the last day of the year - which coincidentally happens to be both pay day and my birthday! - I'll be trying a differant approach. I've suggested to Dean O' that he may care to join me, as I sneak from pub to pub, searching out their Irish Whiskeys and trying a sample dram of each in turn! The True Quest for the Best (IMHO) Irish Whiskey will really begin at the end of the month. Then I figure I can get back home here. Feed my Dogs some hay and meal. See the donkey has enough meat. Then I may well slip out with the rifle, shoot a tree and be found in the morning; Passed out and frozen to death beneath a hare! Bottle of Jamesons clutched in my hand! Guest Ditch_Shitter
Potcheen! I swear to god, I've just this minute finished talking to my sister and damned if I didn't tell her I'm determined to sample Potcheen! Further back on this very Thread is a link to commercially available stuff. But, as we both agreed; Once it has the governmental stamp all over it, ye somehow know it's become too sanitized. No. Let the tourists buy that. I know a man who knows a man who knows a woman whose stuff carries the stamp of many happy imbibers down the years Drop of that'll do for me ~ one of these days. Who knows though; Maybe if I mention my interest to enough people, in passing then perhaps someone will take me into their cow biar and fetch down something from a dark hole in the eaves! Now, wouldn't That add true authenticity to the great occassion?!
