Guest Navek
What a decent scope for a centre fire ? I've given my brother a 22-250 and he's after a scope for it it's not going to be getting used to much so doesn't want to pay to much for one but is after something that he can shoot out to 250 yards is there anything decent out there on a budget or is he just going av to payout cheers Quote Link to post
Jax13 251
Pretty much anything on the market will take the recoil and give a worthwhile picture at 250 yards. The difference comes in when you work out what he wants. If he isn't going to be dialling in and it's for daytime only or under a lamp then go cheap and cheerful with adjustable parallax in a mag that suits what he wants because you will be hard pressed to see much difference in good conditions. As soon as you start thinking about dawn / dusk light gathering capabilities, higher mag (which to be reliable and not white out usually needs better glass) repeatable target turrets, clever reticles, better build quality or better glass quality then you can start stretching your budget from - 100 quid second hand for something that will work at 250 out to half decent second hand car money if he wants all the bells and whistles and top end glass. IMHO, how / when he intends to use it and how good / bad his eyesight is will be whats going to dictate what he needs. Quote Link to post
Guest Navek
99% off its use will be shoring fox 250 300 yards under lamp Quote Link to post
delswal 3,819
99% off its use will be shoring fox 250 300 yards under lamp Cheap scope for 300 yards on the lamp.....If you find one Nav give me a shout, Ive just bought a Vortex Crossfire 4-12-50 for the very same job for my .222 does what it says on the box out to 200 never pushed it further tbh.........£181 from optics warehouse.......depends what ya call cheap Quote Link to post
Jax13 251
If its enough mag for him, something like an old phillipino made Simmons wtc (3-12x50 maybe) should be more than capable and cost under £100 second hand. As above though, how cheap is 'cheap'because different people have different perceptions. Quote Link to post
charlie caller 3,654
Nikon Prostaff, 3-9x50 BDC reticule, absolutely pis*es on the competition, and you should get a nice used one for around a hundred quid. Quote Link to post
Deker 3,478
99% off its use will be shoring fox 250 300 yards under lamp Can't he get closer, 250-300 yards under a lamp is a long way! Quote Link to post
Guest Navek
Yea should of edited post to correct what my head was thinking instead of what my fingers were weighting .. 99 % of shots will be on lamp the 1% of shots will be day time on lamp shy / weary foxs (due to local chavs running them with uncapable lurchers ) so will need something to get out to 250 ... dont think my shity lamp could evern reach that distance and offer a good picture at that distance it's only a little tracer Quote Link to post
