One For The Mechanics- Turbo

Recommended Posts

no loss of power, no oil use, turbo works as it should. has alittle play in-out in the shaft, can hear the turbine sound on idle and more when shut off engine at end of vid

i know its on its way out, reckon i could run it for abit yet?

I reckon it could be the manifold gasket on the exhaust.

I had same prob on a discovery, same symptoms, felt a little play in turbo, but it was manifold gasket in end, made a real whistle. Turbo was fine

good point, or a warped exhaust manifold, in which case it may need reskimming on the sealing face. Do you get a strong smell of exhaust fumes?

no strong smell, this wouldnt be causing the turbine noise?

getting different opinions on it, some are saying its because they use rollar barings, and the oil pressure will help take up the play? the noise is acceptable and if it isnt using any oil, no large amounts passing through then run it.. just service it every 4-5k

As it got an inter/after cooler on it ,could be a split pipe or a pipe not tight enough... Hard to tell the type of noise off a video really
