HedgeCrawler 224
Having just lost one of my Jills to this terrible disease I am wondering I should stop feeding raw food to my other ferrets.None of the other got or have got it.My whole court has been disifected as a procuation and the others wormed and flead. It's very disheartening as I only got this one last year and she was proving to be a reliable worker. Has anyone else encountered botulism before,if so how often? Quote Link to post
Arry 26,525
Was she in season mate? If left in season for a long time they can get run down and sceptical to infections. Cheers Arry Quote Link to post
Leeview 796
surely botulism is food poisoning therefore an infection not a disease? caused by the ferret stashing food that then gets infected and the ferret eats it Y.I.S Leeview Quote Link to post

Cheers Arry No the jill wasn't in season and has only been fed dry food since the warmer weather. Quote Link to post
Arry 26,525
Yea Leeview is right on that just thought they might be more sceptical if run down bit. Anyway mate sorry you lost one of your best jills especially that way and seem a bit odd as she was on dried food. Cheers Arry Quote Link to post
The one 8,621
Cant see it being botulism if you've been feeding dry for a while , but did you get her autopsied ?. Quote Link to post
Guest vin
Never heard of that before with any ferrets i know of. Quote Link to post
HedgeCrawler 224
The vet said botulism was the cause when I took the jill in but other than that I didn't get her autopsies. Quote Link to post
The one 8,621
Ferrets aren't daft if mine leave some rabbit or chicken after feeding they don't go back to it they will know by smell its on the turn or going off , while the daft dugs eagerly wait outside the hutch to gobble down the remains and get a dose of sh#ts 1 Quote Link to post
