spindolero 1,126
My 16 year old is wanting to get bigger for rugby and has been advised to do Creatine. Not comfortable with it myself, heard it put stress on kidneys and also maybe the long term effects aren't fully known yet? What are people's thoughts/advice? Just out of curiosity....who advised him to take Creatine if you dont mind me asking ?.....and is that all they advised him ? You could do a lot worse than sign him up at his local gym by the sound of it. He bumped into one of his old rugby coaches that was training in same gym (leisure centre ) he takes it. gnasher16 31,602
Going by the book its unusual for anyone to tell a 16 year old to take supplements.....not because its unsafe as a few of the lads have already said Creatine in particular is one of the most extensively researched supplements on the market....but simply because all the testing and studies that are done on supplements are done on adults......Creatine is osmotically active meaning it pulls water into the muscle cells, which as it does so will cause a decrease in electrolytes making the need to take in things like magnesium and sodium higher to avoid cramps.....this will all only take place if sufficient energy is used....if not it will just sit as water weight......i would say if he is physically active enough to warrant using it then it wont do him no harm and will without doubt make him put weight on.....its up to him whether it is good healthy weight though.
