Sorry to say but it you were sentenced to more than 3 years you are prohibited for life.

The 5 year ban is for people who have been sentenced to more than 3 months but less than 3 years.

I was jailed for 3 months.

Sorry. Read it wrong. My bad. :icon_redface:

Yes if your sentence was over 3 months you're banned for 5 years.

Bearing in mind what you were sentenced for and then got done for illegal possession of a firearm, I'd say it was unlikely you would be granted a FAC when your 5 years is up.

Never say never though. Can't hurt to try. the worst they can do is say no.

Was this a FAC air rifle or a 12ft lb?

I'll have to check here, but I didn't think sub 12 ft lb counted, fortunately I have never been in a position where I need to check before!

If you are a prohibited from owning a firearm, that includes airguns.

Taken from BASC website:

Prohibited persons are not allowed to keep any firearm or any ammunition; this includes shotguns, air weapons and their ammunition (pellets/darts etc) and ‘antique’ firearms. The prohibition does not extend to paintball guns, imitation or deactivated firearms.

Sorry to sound like a party-pooper but I an never comfortable with someone who has been in prison for assault and BOTP, being allowed to own firearms.

If he can't control himself whilst unarmed without resorting to violence then why would anyone feel happy enough to give him a gun.

As I have said before........would anyone here want an ex-con who had been done for violence, moving in next door and owning a bloody shotgun. :shok:

I know I wouldn't
