pianoman 3,589
HW85 is still available from Weihrauch it seems Tomburras. . Seriously tempted to see about getting one. It looks lovely and sleek in a Luxus stock, if Hull Cartridge import it in that spec.. It was intended as a cut-down HW80 to save on weight. Perhaps with a reduced cylinder dimension? But the HW95 took that role on as an alternative to the HW80 and has proven a popular spring break barrel rifle in its own right. The HW80 is not all that heavy, God knows I've been shooting them since they first came out back in 1982/83 and the one I've currently owned for the last 18 years (September 1997 vintage) is a full length .22 rifle and I have never found it a lump to lug about on a sling. Matt Manning seems a decent, likeable type. I enjoy his shooting vids and reviews on the Airgun show Youtube channel. FWB Sport 127 - .22 cal`FWB Sport 124 - .177 cal` I often think about getting another 127. I shot this rifle exclusively from 16 yrs of age to very recently.( nearly 40 yrs). Only the HW 100`s could take me away. Never had my head out of Air Gun World as a kid and still read it today. atb Used to have an HW85k then and what a gun!Never hear of them now sadly. EDIT: read it properly and didn't realise how long ago you guys mention but feel cheeky contributing to this - im only 31 so still a mere beginner to you guys! but in my youth (late 90,s) it was ay HW85 for me. You come across in your posts as an older chap Tom! I'm surpised to see here you are only 31...........Still though, not exactly a mere Broth of a boy! Quote Link to post

I was obsessed at an early age and was out daily until dark. time is massively against the hobby nowadays tho The old HW85 was an absolute gem and it was using that just blew me away. The looks and build quality was amazing and the lighter weight than an HW80 allowed easier shooting. Topped off with an old 4x32 scope it was an awesome combo. - god I miss that thing! 1 Quote Link to post
pianoman 3,589
I saw one, once, a right-hander HW85 about ten years ago, maybe more, in a N.Yorks. gunshop I use and thought it was a real beauty. It wasn't for sale, it had been serviced by the resident gunsmith for a customer.. It looks just like an HW80 in a smaller, compact profile. I never forget that HW85 it definitely made a very favourable impression on me, just from the looks of it. You've got me starting to want to go look for a left handed version Tom-b. A google search and up this rifle comes from all over the place. Weihrauch seem to continue with it in their line up. Best regards. Simon 1 Quote Link to post
PeskyWabbits 464
It is still available but Hull Cartridge choose not to import it. http://www.sportsmanguncentre.co.uk/catalogsearch/result/?q=hw85 You can get it from Sportsman Gun Centre. but I think the current version is a HW95 but with open sights. Didn't the original have a raised sight rail? What is so special about Hull Cartridge? I know they are the official importer but... 1 Quote Link to post

Simon Hi Simon it's nice to hear someone who shares same enthusiasm for them! Selling it was one of my biggest mistakes - I sold it to help fund an air arms S410 in 2001 and felt like I'd lost a good friend after a while! Just looked on gun trader but can't see an old HW85 on there at the moment. Good luck finding one if you decide to get one! All the best Tom. Quote Link to post

tomburras 2,730
Only just found out (on this thread) that the HW85 is still made and looking at that price list mark seems quite cheap. I wonder if the quality will be the same as an 1980s made 85 tho? 2 Quote Link to post

tomburras 2,730
My thoughts entirely Tom. This sounds really harsh! For one example The old HW stocks where dark and deep lovely Finnish. I recently baught a new (ish) Turkish bsa lightening to mess with and when in the local gun shop looked at new HW,s And thaught OMG the bloody Turk BSA stock looked better! What the hell! pianoman 3,589
I bet a new HW85 will be just as good as any for a good fettle and internal polish. Or a visit to Sandwell Field Sports. I'll give Tony Wall his due, he's a superb gunsmith for tuning Weihrauch spring rifles. I bet he'd make a stonking great rifle from an HW85. 1 Quote Link to post
